Feeling incredibly inspired after attending the 2026 IIDA Calibre Design Awards ✨

Seeing visionary projects come to life and witnessing the recognition of such talented designers reminds me why I’m so passionate about this industry. It was also an honor to celebrate Randy during such a meaningful night.

A special Thank you to @megplante and the @ofs_cali team for graciously hosting myself and the IIDACC team and making us feel so welcomed. 🤍✨ taken in InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown by @sstudioroberto

VITASCOPE NEXUS
Return to connection

IDES STUDIO 4
NARRATIVE | WALL-E
INSTRUCTOR | RANDY SHAFFER
STUDENT | ROBERTO GUZMAN
WOODBURY UNIVERSITY SPRING 2026

Vitascope Nexus is a creative hub rooted in the idea of returning to connection. Inspired by the origins of motion picture and the meaning of “Vitascope” viewing life the project explores how storytelling, technology, and human experience can coexist within one evolving environment.

Drawing inspiration from the layered and modular world of WALL·E, the space is designed as an interconnected network of theaters, galleries, animation studios, and digital workspaces that encourage collaboration and creativity. Each space blurs the line between creator and audience, allowing people to not only witness stories, but become part of them.

The project was also heavily inspired by the atmospheric qualities and material language seen throughout the film. The warm haze created by the toxic air in WALL·E produces a diffused, almost cinematic quality of light that informed the lighting approach and color palette within the space. Rusted steel, mixed metals, worn textures, and industrial materials reference the compressed trash blocks WALL·E creates, transforming discarded and toxic elements into something visually compelling and harmonious. These modular forms became a key influence in the spatial composition and overall design language of the project.

At its core, the concept explores the idea of renewal taking what has been neglected or polluted and reimagining it into something meaningful and alive. This philosophy is anchored through the introduction of a central tree within the space, symbolizing life re-emerging and nature reclaiming its presence, much like the return of life to Earth in the film. The tree acts as both a visual and emotional focal point, reinforcing the idea that creativity, human connection, and renewal can continuously grow together within Vitascope Nexus.

Showroom Pathways

What happens when emerging talent is given the opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the design world firsthand?

Questions are asked. Conversations begin. Confidence grows. A showroom visit can become a new connection, a career possibility, or the moment someone begins to imagine a future they had not yet considered.

Our recent Pacific Design Center Guided Tour was a powerful reminder of why LA VIDA creates these experiences. We want emerging talent to have opportunities to be present, be curious, meet the people shaping our industry, and see more clearly what may be possible for their own future. We are deeply grateful to every showroom and industry professional who welcomed our group and gave their time, knowledge, and encouragement so generously.

If you are emerging talent interested in future
LA VIDA programs, DM us.

Know someone who should be part of this? Share this post with them.

If you are a showroom or industry partner interested in helping create future opportunities, we would love to hear from you.

The future of design is already here. Let’s make sure it has every opportunity to thrive.

Some nights stay with you long after they’re over.

Being invited to speak at Fixtures & Familia was one of those moments. Sharing part of my story alongside Monique in a room filled with designers, architects, students, mentors, and friends was incredibly meaningful.

I’m so thankful to @lavidalosangeles for believing in emerging designers and creating opportunities that go beyond networking they build community, confidence, and lasting relationships.

Thank you to @vynlopez for being an amazing moderator and making the conversation feel so genuine, to @totousa for hosting us in such a beautiful space, and to everyone who showed up to support LA VIDA. Seeing so many familiar and new faces made the evening even more special.

And thank you, @visualized.estates for documenting it all so perfectly. 📸

Thank you @benjaminmoore and @catalinapaints for inviting me to the From Walls to Nails designer event 🎨 Such a fun and inspiring afternoon learning about Benjamin Moore’s innovative paint technology and products. One of my favorite parts was seeing a curated color palette from the Benjamin Moore’s line translated into nail designs! such a creative and unexpected way to experience color and design. Loved meeting new people and seeing familiar faces! taken in Los Angeles, California by @sstudioroberto

Being part of the @newh_la community is something I am incredibly proud and grateful for. Receiving this recognition motivates me to continue striving for excellence and reminds me why I fell in love with design and hospitality in the first place.

As a student, support like this creates opportunities that help us continue pursuing our education, our creativity, and our future careers with confidence.

Thank you to everyone from the NEWH team and the hospitality community for your encouragement, kindness, and support. I truly appreciate being part of such an inspiring network. taken in Los Angeles, California by @sstudioroberto
