NEW WORK: Poster for Tiki Time Machine 18 “Return to Adventure Island” at @hiddenharborpgh What mystery is to be found on Adventure Island? And why are we going back? I mean, besides for the tasty, tasty tiki drinks. Yes, it’s another Tiki Time Machine with my fave faves, Pittsburgh’s very own Hidden Harbor! Lots of very cool goodies coming with this one and to tip it off, I created this ominous faux travel poster. For this version of TTM I wanted to a nod to Johnny Quest (and Archer and Venture Bros, because we all draw from the same well) with that early 60s earnest optimism and dedication to the thrill of the unknown. (Hey and maybe the Challengers of the Unknown... IYKYK). Sure this “island is a skull” might be pretty familiar visually but it just seems so perfect in this instance. And dude, I also used a STYLUS and Bezier Buddy from @truegrittexturesupply to draw this. If you know me and my love of the mouse this is ‘uge. Kicks off tomorrow at July 21. NEW WORK: Poster for @muckandthemires @thezackstaticsect and super powrr at the Belltown Yacht Club!Always a fun time designing for these garage killers! I basically tried to sum up the hi-energy explosion Boston’s Muck & The Mires bring to every gig—but in poster form. The idea was to recall classic Globe (Baltimore, ‘natch) show posters but with my own stupid twists: I threw in some random ridiculousness (hot dogs, marlins) and a distinct nod to Burien’s Best Dance & Show Band: The Zack Static Sect. NEW WORK: Poster for @thewogglesband LIVE on @littlesteven_ug @siriusxm CHANNEL 21 ⚡️Back at it! Another fun one for my brothers-in-the-garage The Woggles. I wanted to create something that keyed in on the fact they’re appearing on satellite radio (a big deal…yes!) Sure I could’ve gone with “vintage good times rock and roll” pics of dancing couples and/or surface “retro” tropes but why not give this a little more thought? And since I’ve probably typeset the word “Woggles” hundreds of times over the years I wanted to try something slightly more challenging. I liken this treatment to an old radio station sign (see? NEW WORK: “Hyper-rare variant subset” mini-posters for the @onipress blind-bag release of Matt Kindt’s “Mind MGMT: New & Improved” OUT NOWWhoa…what is this? Crazy project with mega cool comics publisher Oni Press (Scott Pilgrim, The Sixth Gun, Adventure Time, etc) that they’re calling Operation: Blind Bag. Basically this is a new spin on @matt.kindt.for.real brilliant series Mind MGMT (have you read it? Do it now!) complete with new material, variant covers from a slew of awesome artists and special foil “blind bags” containing a rare print designed by yours truly. How rare? The “Lone Gunman” is limited to 100 copies while the RAREST “Reproduction” (Brillo boxes…) is just 5 copies! (If you read the fine print it actually says “One of these covers is a hallucination and will never actually exist. Sorry, and thank you for playing!”)Working with Oni braintrust Hunter Gorinson, I was told “punk rock/conspiracies/mind control” as a creative brief and we were off to the races. I had a blast dropping in subtle bits of text and images culled from various sources. It’s a bit hardcore flier, infamous conspiracy theories, alt history and my own smart-ass sense of humor. All of this wrapped up in one of the best comic book series to come out in decades. Honestly, if anyone can figure out how to make this a movie or television series, they’d be a zillioniare. TIKI PUNK 2: Opening 6/6, 7pm-10pm, at The Punk Rock Museum, Las Vegas, FREE Treading new and uncomfortable ground, I will be debuting four new snazzy artworks as part of this amazing Tiki Punk 2 group show! TIKI PUNK 2: THE CONFLUENCE OF TIKI & PUNK ARTOpening Night — June 6th at 7 PMPunk culture and the rediscovery of tiki culture emerged side by side in 1980s Southern California as anti-establishment movements reacting to the political and cultural climate of the Reagan era. Punk became a raw expression of frustration, resistance, and catharsis as a direct response to authoritarianism, greed, and the glamorization of wealth. Tiki culture offered a different form of rebellion: escape. NEW WORK: Design for London Calling: The Clash in the Capital, map and guide from @herb_lester and written by @_paul_gorman_ OUT NOWI teased the cover and by now some of you have seen this (or even better, have it) but here’s a closer look.The entire process started with an idea from Ben at Herb Lester looking at inspiration from punk zines of 70s and early UK punk posters. This being an invitingly robust place to dig around I embraced some of the quirks of zine layouts and typography (oh those ellipses after each entry). I also wanted to make parts of this as handmade as possible which included ripping up photocopies and creating the LC stencil for the map’s header. One of the few days there was no wind here in New Mexico made spraying EZ. I felt pretty clever creating the background for both sides of the map and hilariously, it’s covered almost entirely covered up by the copy blocks. But rest assured there is a full chaotic collage underneath. The piece as a whole features many Clash-related Easter Eggs (find ‘em!) and I kept the color scheme to that first album green & orange.The entire project is pretty massive—Paul Gorman wrote up 131 entries and it’s packed with many fascinating details that run the gamut of the band’s entire history (before and after). NEW WORK: LP jacket design for @thewogglesband , “Stop And Take a Minute” from @wickedcoolrecords Is this really the 9th LP I’ve designed for The Woggles? Yes, it is. I designed this back in August (that is a tasty lead time, people) and there wasn’t a single concept for this one but I was feeling the fake soundtrack vibe (again?) and decided to create kind of a mod cut up of an imaginary action-flick that would be a sub-James Coburn type picture. Less Dean Martin more Dean Stockwell. Literally hacking together imagery from across the spectrum featuring cars, intriguing spies and a nod to music here and there. And can we talk about the preponderance of purple? I will admit from 1989 to about 2019 I hated using purple on anything. The few projects that have purple I cringed at. But hey, it’s 2026 and purple is where it’s at, baby! Grab this one (great, as always) MAY 8 or if you’re lucky enough to be on a boat in the Gulf of MEXICO with the boys (Little Steven’s Underground Garage Cruise), they’ll have them THERE.
