The One-Night Secret by Brighton Walsh
.
Maverick blew into Starlight Cove for one reason: to find his deadbeat father and hold him accountable. What he didn’t expect to find was one unforgettable night with a woman who has everything together and doesn’t let anyone in. Maverick should leave, his four half brothers want him gone, but he can’t seem to stay away from Rowan.

What I liked:
-Let’s start with the narration: this audiobook was fantastic! Love the duet narration and the narrators were perfect for Rowan and Maverick.
-Rowan and Maverick had me hooked from chapter one. No wait, that is a lie, they had me hooked from the last couple chapters in The Roommate Rules! Their chemistry was instant and insane. I love, love, love them so much!
-Lots of humor, I was chuckling a lot. One of my favorite things about this whole series is the “group chat” sections, all the bickering between this family is hilarious.
-I teared up several times. Maverick and Rowan were so used to being alone and strong, it was so touching to see them learn to lean on each other in trust and love.
-Holly’s family dinners.
-Maverick fixing everything.
-Rowan’s kids immediately taking to Maverick and moving him into their lives!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can’t decide if this book or The Grump Next Door is my favorite, but One Night Secret was everything for me. If you love romance, I highly recommend this series.

Can you believe it is the last day of September? What is a book you have read and loved recently?
.
College freshman Lily is spending the summer in Taipei at an intensive language program hoping to connect with the culture she inherited. Things aren’t going as she hoped and she feels adrift in this foreign country. Then the news of her grandfathers death reaches her and she is forced to grapple with now unanswerable questions about her family history.

This sounds like a moving coming of age story, I’m really looking forward to reading it! I love books about families and their heritage. We were all young and oblivious once right? But as we get older our heritage means more to us.
I just went to visit my grandma last weekend. She is 89 and can’t hear as well. And I wish I had asked her more questions about when she was younger and her life and her family. What a treasure to have grandparents. 💜💜

I read the author’s previous book (Banyan Moon) awhile back and really enjoyed it so I’m very excited to read this new story. It’s about two estranged sisters who set out on a quest to find a painting by a forgotten Vietnamese artist that may hold some truth about their family’s past.

What have you been up to lately? What are you reading right now?

I’m sharing a book I listened to earlier this year: Soul of Shadow by Emma Noyes.

This book surprised me in that it was not what I was expecting! (But in a good way)
Charlie lost her twin awhile ago and her life has been upside down since. She is struggling everyday. Then some kids disappear in the woods and at the same time a new guy (who is gorgeous) shows up and is dark and mysterious. Charlie is immediately suspicious of this new guy and not AT ALL attracted to him (she’s NOT). She is determined to discover all her secrets, she just doesn’t realize that doing so will open her eyes to a world she thought was only a myth.
.
The ending for this was a bit of a cliffhanger and there were a couple of plot twists to the story that I did kot see coming. On the day she is hosting her four-year old’s birthday party, she finds a stranger has broken into her living room and she stabs him 7 times. Now she will need to add disposing of a body to her to do list.

I found this book so entertaining! It was wild and a little dark and definitely a popcorn story. I really grew to like Lalla who was obviously unhinged in a slightly comical way. Some of the schemes she pulled off were over the top and yet so very genius.

Eve Dallas is on the case again. A first glance it looks like a mindless murder during a home robbery. Only the family were not even aware their was a vault until recently. No one knew the vault was there, so who would know to steal from it?
.
I love me some Eve Dallas! These are auto-read books for me: Eve is a badass, her partner is funny and quirky, her husband is a jack of all trades who adores her, and her whole team not only work well together- they are a found family.

This mystery was intriguing from the start. I was pulled in quickly and very excited to watch Eve put all the pieces together with the help of her uncanny cop instincts.

The “take down” scene is always my favorite and this story did not disappoint. I stayed up too late finishing this book. 4 very solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! Highly recommend the whole series! Don’t you just love the idea of a year of books chosen for you by a loved one? Who would you want to chose them for you?

This Book Made me Think of You by Libby Page
.
Tilly is still deep in her grief for her late husband when she receives a late gift from him. He has arranged for Tilly to receive a year of books from him, one book a month to help her heal. As Tilly reads each new book she opens herself back up a little bit towards the things she used to love in life, and new adventures she hadn’t given a chance yet.
.
Oh my heart. This book was so beautiful. It was definitely the right book at the right time for me. I sobbed like a little baby reading the last half of it. (Who am I kidding, the whole thing was emotional)
Tilly’s story was so moving. Despite such a loss, she was able to see that continuing to live doesn’t mean moving on and forgetting your loved one. I was very touched by her story.
And do not get me started on Alfie the bookseller. 🥰🥰🥰😭😭😭😭😭 He was undeniably the best part of the story. And not just in how he grew to care for Tilly, his story itself was so sweet and heartbreaking. I love him.

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A gloriously beautiful story. I was captivated the whole time and mildy heartbroken when it ended. I definitely need a copy for the shelf! Thank you @berkleypub for this free ebook! Worst Faking Idea by Angela Casella
.
Nora and Cormac are not friends. Along time ago in school they had a coyple of run ins and now they avoid each other. After an acquaintance mistakenly thinks they are dating, Nora and Cormac make a pact to fake it for the sake of Nora’s business.
.
I love fake dating, so I really enjoyed that aspect of the book. There were a lot of humorous moments between Nora and Cormac as they tried to make everyone believe they were super into each other.

I love all the side characters in these stories but Nathaniel really stole my heart. He was such a kind guy and a good sport after Nora thought he meant ill will. 🤣🤣🤣

The plot to break up an ill matched couple was super interesting to read. I was absolutely invested in breaking those two up. The resolution to that part of the story was satisfying and Nora’s decision showed such growth on her part.

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This series was so much fun to read. If you are looking for a new romantic comedy series then be sure to check out the Babes of Brewing series!

What I liked:
-Steve writes such suspenseful books! I was so tense but I needed to know how it ended!
-I was hooked from the start. Such a great first couple of chapters!
-Eddie Flynn and his team are so captivating to read about. They work so well together and are really motivated to help people.
-What a clever ending!
.
