Like watching the gates of heaven emerge in a psychedelic trip, or the building blocks of an alien life form, watching these shapes catalyze from the mathematics of cellular building blocks that make up natural life forms is mesmerizing. I feel like I’ve been trying to get at this same question with every work I’ve done for over a decade. How can we see the intertwinement of the natural and the digital, or code and our bodies, or the seen and unseen. I feel like I’m getting closer. by @stacy_jo_scott

The density of the language of the stacked clay sigils on this one makes me feel like too many spells have been cast at once and their voices overlap and inter-dwell and we may feel a moment of ecstasy but won’t ever know why or from where. by @stacy_jo_scott

Excited to start getting these babies out of the kiln! I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of stacking sigils as a dense language of form-making. The sigil creates the form of what it refers to, like in magic, while also being its own form itself. I created these sigils based on mathematical spatial rules drawn from both geometry and the chemistry of natural pattern formation written into code. 3D printed in clay, the way the line responds to these rules dictates the form that is produced. I cast the program to trigger the set of rules the line needs to conform to. And I accrete the most vibrating symbols into stacks. Each stack is a collection of forms created by this process of directed chance. Like geomancy, it’s a marker of that unique moment in time. by @stacy_jo_scott

We couldn’t be more thrilled to be showing Stacy Jo Scott’s most recent foray into the intersection of digital technology and clay work. ‘Writ in Water’ will feature pieces that grew out of their recent residency at CRETA (ceramics residencies education and teaching in the arts) in Rome, Italy.

The show opens with Mike Bray in the adjacent gallery on Sunday, March 30 from 3 to 5PM. See you there!

She co-curated the groundbreaking exhibition on Digital Ceramics: New Morphologies: Studio Ceramics and Digital Practices at the Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art at Alfred University in Alfred, NY and was a Franzen Teaching Fellow for Digital Craft at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO.

The green of these mossy rocks on our land is almost psychedelically vibrant in real life. Sonja and I’s first date basically evolved into looking at tiny mysterious beautiful things in the woods together. We love doing that here to get to know our land in the smallest little pockets. Sonja is particularly dedicated as evident in last pic. taken in Mckenzie River by @stacy_jo_scott

Special project Sonja and I have been working on. String of mantra beads for our dear friend and brother @jovenciodelapaz for their celebration of Hosenshiki AKA Dharma Combat AKA priest training graduation. We made beads from terra cotta, shino, indigo, gathered from friends, found on rivers and oceanside. It has been many years, a lifetime, many lifetimes to lead to this moment. But they have carried the grace, wisdom, compassion, and steadfastness of the Buddha Ancestors since we first met when we were young bucks. May your practice continue to reverberate through many more ages, and through everyone who is lucky to know you. by @stacy_jo_scott

It’s Sonja’s birthday and we got a tractor to help us tend our 4 rocky acres on the McKenzie. We’ve got our work cut out for us but we’ll do it together. I couldn’t be luckier to share this life, this work, this love, with her. And now with tractor! by @stacy_jo_scott
