THE OCULUS AND THE PATH OF LIGHT
The World Trade Center Oculus was designed as a light filled space at the center of the transportation hub.

Its orientation and central skylight align with the symbolic path of sunlight associated with the Wedge of Light concept. On September 11, sunlight enters through the glass panels of the skylight and moves across the Oculus floor during the times connected to the attacks.

As the light travels through the space, it illuminates two parallel columns of light that reference the original Twin Towers and the moments that changed the skyline of Lower Manhattan forever.

The movement of light through the Oculus transforms the transportation hub into a place of reflection, remembrance, and connection.

WHAT IS THE WEDGE OF LIGHT?
The Wedge of Light is a symbolic architectural concept designed to connect memory, time, and space through sunlight.

In Libeskind’s original vision for the rebuilt World Trade Center, public space would be shaped by the sun’s angles on September 11 between the time of the first attack and time of the collapse of the second tower:
8:46 AM — when the first plane struck the North Tower
10:28 AM — when the North Tower collapsed
The alignment was intended to create a meaningful relationship between light, remembrance, and the surrounding city.

As part of the World Trade Center redevelopment, the concept of the Wedge of Light helped shape the orientation and geometry of public spaces across the site.

It doesn’t seem possible that 25 years have passed since that horrible day. The memorials and tributes to those who perished that day are all a wonderful testament to what bonds us as Americans.

Let us remember the unity we all felt in the aftermath of the tragedy of that day. Let us find the common ground that can unify us once again.

•• Yayoi Kusama ••

Today the public learned of the August 14, 2026 passing of Yayoi Kusama in Tokyo. Her studio and museum shared the official news. Yayoi was 97. She was world-renowned for her immersive Infinity Mirror Rooms, polka-dot patterns, and bright pumpkin sculptures.

I feel so honored to have experienced numerous art installations of hers over the past years. On Naoshima island and Fukuoka, Japan, in Chicago, IL, and here in LA inside the mirror room at the Broad art museum (no pics of that).

She certainly brought color, reflection and so much unique beauty to this world!! RIP after a long and productive life!

•• Vibrant DTLA ••

Such a beautiful gathering place in downtown Los Angeles!! The Jerry Moss Plaza outside The Music Center was a perfect meeting spot for family and friends, new and old! The legendary Peruvian cumbia band Los Mirlos performed a free outdoor concert and the number of people dancing was quite a sight to behold! (I stayed on the periphery😬)
Discovering new things and meeting new people in such a diverse big city is the spice of life!😉

•• Unique Opportunities ••

The Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning has earned three 2026 Emmy nominations: Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program, and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program.

We had the opportunity to attend a screening and panel Q&A with 3 of the 7 editors of this amazing documentary. Good luck at the Emmys @jackgravina and everyone else involved!
It was so fascinating to learn from these 3 amazing editors just how much time and effort goes into making a documentary such as this.

The building itself was also interesting, especially the gigantic Emmy Garden showcasing all the Emmy awards Netflix has won! Pinocchio is pretty cool too!!
