By June of 24, recording had completely taken over my life. Every free moment inside my one-bedroom apartment became dedicated to the album. Any time my roommate left or friends weren’t over, I’d start recording. I became consumed by microphones, speaker distortion, layering, and the challenge of making digital recordings feel physically overwhelming.

At the time, most of the tones came from a Boss Katana, a JC-90, and a handful of rudimentary pedals — mainly a RAT, a Russian Big Muff, and a Pitch Fork. I wasn’t chasing perfection. I wanted brittleness. I wanted blown-out warmth. I wanted something that felt unstable and unreal.

By the end of July, I was already showing friends what were essentially finished versions of the songs. Most of my time afterward was spent obsessing over mixes: re-recording parts, adjusting tones, and trying to understand how to make music breathe the way I heard it in my head. How loud could something become before it collapsed into itself? How could a mix feel dense without suffocating?

At the same time, I was still holding onto this idea of being entirely self-sufficient. I didn’t want help. I wanted to prove I could build everything myself. But almost everyone around me kept reminding me that music was never meant to exist in isolation.

Eventually, people started asking me to play the songs live. Then more people came around. Slowly, the record stopped feeling like something made entirely alone.

By November, the album was essentially complete. Friends had contributed pieces to it. All that remained was for me to finally let it go.

The first version of Turn Off The Engine And Walk Away released on December 20, 2024.

I knew the mixes weren’t perfect. I knew there were things I still wanted to improve. But I also understood that it represented the absolute best I could create at that moment in my life. In 2019, TEANF was mostly just an idea — a phrase and philosophy that had quietly followed me throughout much of my life. “Try Everything And No One Fails” became a way of approaching creativity without the pressure of perfection or permanence. Over time, the acronym slowly attached itself to nearly every small project I created: radio shows, photography, publications, recordings, documentation, videos, collages, and experiments that existed outside of any singular identity.

Many of these projects existed independently and without much structure. Some were uploaded briefly and disappeared, others remained unfinished, while a few slowly evolved into larger bodies of work over time. Much of the music and visual material from this period was also released under the name Anyx — an extension of the same philosophy that would eventually evolve into TEANF more broadly.

For a long time, TEANF existed more as a mantra than a defined project. I never fully sat down to consider what all of these materials, experiments, and fragments could eventually become when viewed together.

Now, seven years later, this relaunch serves as an effort to organize those fragments into a more cohesive and ongoing multimedia archive — one centered around experimentation, documentation, preservation, collaboration, and artistic development across multiple forms.

Rather than existing strictly as a label, publication, or collective, TEANF functions as an evolving system intended to hold unfinished ideas, completed works, environments, recordings, broadcasts, visual projects, and collaborative efforts together, even as the world continues trying to pull everything apart.
