Arma: Reforger

The boundaries of what I consider large shoot have pushed a bit over the years. When you deal with tanks or fighter jets on everyday basis, it becomes normal fairly quickly. But last year I was approached by Bohemia Interactive, one of large game studios. And what we created together with my brother in arms @zdenekcharvat was completely out of scale. Certainly for me.

The production work took two months. We were scouting for vintage cars, wheeled and tracked armoured personnel carriers, models, costumes and countless weapons and props.

We closed down half a village for the shoot, a square in a small town outside Prague, and at one point there were over 70 people on set. Explosions, gunfire, firemen, burning cars. Everything you see in the photos really happened.

Shot on Fujifilm GFX100S + 45-100/4
Lights by Fomei, powered by EcoFlow Delta 1300
Retouched on MacBook Pro with Eizo CG319x and Wacom Intuos Pro M

This was an incredibly challenging shoot…again. We were shooting with L-159 Alca fighters for Czech Air Force, in a scenario where these elegant jets act as a support for ground units.

We had very limited time, with only a few real shooting hours, (air-to-air shoot, bomb dropping and pilots at the base), so we tried to roll on as many cameras as possible. There were four Insta360 1-Inch installed in cockpits and on the planes along with Sony FX6, FX9 and A7S3. In addition we had several still cameras, main ones were Hasselblad H6D-100C and Canon R5.

Let me know how you like the results!!

It is the end of May 1945 in Czechoslovakia. The Second World War is over, Germany has capitulated and President Beneš in mid-May calls the removal of the Germans an absolute necessity. Tensions between the Czech and German populations are growing. The Germans became the hunted, with a huge number of violent attacks, lynchings and murders.

At the forefront of the wave of violence are troops returning home from the front. Many of the soldiers have lost their families, are unable to adapt to civilian life and are united by an overwhelming hatred of the Germans.

The more far-sighted of the German old-timers are trying to avoid state-organised removal and are attempting to cross the border on their own. Under the cover of night, entire families with their children, sometimes accompanied by soldiers from the decimated German army, embark on the marches. It is no longer a question of property, animals or homesteads, but of bare existence.
