The $15k FSG Fellowship deadline is July 13.

"Launched in 2021, the FSG Writer’s Fellowship is an annual program designed to give an emerging writer from an underrepresented community additional resources to build a life around writing—including $15,000 in funding, editorial guidance, and support from the FSG community. The Fellowship celebrates the spirit of the FSG list and its commitment to invention, curiosity, and extending the limits of literature."

Henry Dumas was a brilliant short story writer and poet. Toni Morrison said he was "an absolute genius." Every time I think about him being murdered by a NYC transit cop in 1968 it makes me angry.

The good news is @thearkint honors him and his work through its annual short story contest which is open now.

Please consider submitting.

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of this beauty tomorrow. These descent into the underworld stories always have so much power especially when the descent is to find a loved one.

From Heaney’s translation of Virgil:

“None of us has one definite / home place. / We haunt the shadowy woods, / bed down on riverbanks, / On meadowland in earshot of / running streams.”

“A ferryman keeps watch, surly, / filthy and bedraggled / Charon. His chin is bearded with / unclean white shag;…. / All by himself he poles the boat, / hoists sail / And ferries lost souls in his rusted craft / Old but still a god, and a god in / old age / Is green and hardy.” by @stanleystocker

This was my time at @goodcontrivancefarm last year during my residency. If you’re in the DC/MD/VA area, it’s a great place to focus on the work. These are my novel chapters spread out across the floor of the barn apartment. by @stanleystocker

I had the great pleasure of interviewing the writer @ddhayneswrites David Haynes about his new short story collection, the brilliant MARTHA'S DAUGHTER for the @shortstorytoday podcast.

Check it out and stay for Jon DiSavino's reading of David's story "That's Right, You're Not from Texas."

It's a blast!
