I’r gad 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🌼

Been a few weeks already but plot twist I’ve started working in the Senedd/Welsh Parliament.

I don’t know how I got here completely, but at the same time it’s been a long time coming. Running up to the election last May especially, I found myself grappling with what matters most to me. Accepting that there isn’t anything I care more about that the future of the south wales valleys.

The valleys at present are a story of decline, deprivation and indifference from power. Yet are full of community, pride, and kindness. I think the core reasons I care about politics, is that I know talent is spread evenly but opportunity isn’t. Life shouldn’t be a postcode lottery. Neoliberal economics doesn’t work for the 99%, and especially here.

It’s pretty unlikely I’d be here if I wasn’t working with @niamh_pc and @plaidcymruwales. Niamh is everything a politician should be, driven and committed, compassionate and kind, grounded in her upbringing and deeply connected to where she is from. Plaid Cymru gives me hope, I hadn’t met politicians before that sounded like me, thought like me, and came from the same places as me - with an unwavering focus on communities, our culture, and learning the lessons of our past.

I’d gad / let’s fucking go 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌼 by @stantownsend

SWISS PEAKS - for Harry

Made it, 155 hours later!! 364km, 27500m elevation change, incredible support, many blisters, some blood and a few tears.

Everything is still very much sinking in, there’s lots whirring in my mind and loads I’d like to share.

First place to start is the motivation for this and what ultimately got me through all the pain, Harry boy. I’m so stoked to have finished the hardest experience of my life, and proud to have done it in Harry’s name.

Harry lives in me like a raging fire of motivation and purpose. Beyond raising funds to support those fighting cancer, I also wanted to show what was possible when you take Harry’s fire and put it close to your heart. I feel like I’ve achieved that.

Lots of love bro, this one was for you ❤️

Our relationship with water is broken, we can repair it and in doing so we can regenerate both our personal and planet’s health.

I’ll be at @blueearthsummit next Friday (early morning) to run a workshop, inviting in a reconnection to water’s power and patterns at @thewave.

Inspired by @easkeysurf book ´Ebb & Flow’💙

7:30 start at the Wave, @sophiehellyer will also be inviting you into waters magic on the other side

Grateful is probably the first word that comes to mind when I think of @reb.hall & @robwoodcooks.

Battling uphill ⛰️

Been slightly quiet despite resolving to share more on the dreaded social media.

A mix of a busy job, election canvassing, and a draining house renovation has me exhausted. But I have found time for reflection, especially on a year of working in a charity, a lot of door knocking, and seeing a election in Cymru play out.

The main reflection is one of gratitude. Gratitude for the very very small number of people battling uphill against toxic/divisory politics, the interests that fund it (extremely well), and the institutions of power they are embedded with in (media). This small group are unhealthy committed, talented, and full of care for their communities and real people. The next time you wonder if shit could be worse, it would be without these people.

The photo was a far more enjoyable battle up a rather long Dry steep climb in Cham with @domjax44 @dunstanlangrish a couple winters back by @stantownsend

This is it for me. My life’s work has been about addressing climate change, which is ultimately about how we develop our economies and societies. That is much more than a set of technical questions, is about morals and ethics - ie fairness.

Corporate power, big industries, and politicians on their payroll are attacking sustainable development because they are scared. Scared that it will be used as a place to make our economy fairer, our society more equal, and in turn weaken their grip on business as usual that they increasingly benefit from as life continues to get harder for the rest of us.

Growing up in the valleys will teach you what the legacy of an unfair economic transition looks like. It will also teach you show you what a fairer future should look like: keeping wealth in our communities through ownership and a strong voice/involvement in the change around us

NEW Wales Future First episode — live tonight at 6pm.

In this episode, I sit down with Stanley Townsend from Climate Cymru to explore climate action, long-term thinking and the future we are building across Wales.

We discuss:
• collaboration across Wales
• climate leadership
• community action
• economic opportunity
• and how sustainability connects to everyday life

One thing I’ve consistently seen through GreenWales is that incredible work is already happening across Wales — often led by passionate people and organisations quietly creating real impact on the ground.

Wales Future First is about bringing those conversations together.

Watch tonight at 6pm on YouTube.
