It’s Arts in Education Week! 🎨 And with so many new faces joining us, there’s no better time to reintroduce ourselves.

I’m Charlecia Joy @charleciajoy Founder & CEO of Stapledon Arts.

We started in a Bronx art classroom with a simple belief: students should be able to see themselves in the art they create.

I saw firsthand how important it was for students to have melanin-rich art materials that reflect who they are and the communities they come from.

What started as a response in one NYC classroom has grown into inclusive art supplies and creative experiences that impact schools, museums, and homes across the country.

Whether you’re a student, educator, administrator, artist, parent, or simply someone who knows the impact of arts education, this week is for you.

We’re bringing it back to the classroom. 🎨🏙️

We’re so excited to introduce five incredible NYC art teachers selected for our first-ever Art Teacher Collaboration!

After receiving 25+ submissions, we intentionally selected educators representing different grade levels and boroughs across our amazing city.

This pilot brings the Melanin Series back to the people who inspired it: Art teachers and NYC students.

Each collaborator will receive:

🎨 A classroom set of our Melanin Series Acrylic Paints or Oil Pastels
📚 A Stapledon Arts lesson plan created by our founder & CEO, @Charleciajoy—the very lesson that sparked the Melanin Series
🙌🏾 Ongoing support throughout the collaboration
🖼 A culminating celebration showcasing student artwork

Meet our Melanin Series Acrylic Paints—our founding product, created with melanin-rich shades ranging from deep to light.

Just open the tube, pick your shade, and start painting. Or to build rich dimensional portraits, use the deeper tones for shadows and lighter tones for highlights when layering.

✨ For educators, these 12 pre-mixed skin tone colors help students skip the struggle of mixing and get straight to creating. They’re a beautiful addition to self-portrait lessons, ensuring that all students feel seen, represented, and valued in the classroom.

Attending the @blackmuseums AAAM Conference always feels like a homecoming. Because African American Museums understand the importance of creativity, culture, education, and representation which is art the heart of what we do at @stapledonarts

We came to do business, build partnerships, and make connections.

And we surely DID! From on-the-spot purchases and wholesale orders to conversations that could grow into lasting institutional partnerships. It was amazing to see how excited people were about what we’re building.

📸 An inspiring mother-daughter duo whose consulting firm supports the important work of African American Museums.

Loved running into familiar faces!

Got to see our friend Lauren, who we first met MANY moons ago at NAEA and reconnected with the last time we attend @blackmuseums AAAM Conference in 2024.

And now, we’re excited to see the National Juneteenth Museum moving closer to becoming a reality—they’ll be breaking ground later this fall!

Love watching good people build good things. ❤️

There’s just something about Philly.

So coming back always feels a little special.

It’s where I really started to find my footing as an artist, educator, entrepreneur, and community builder.

Having my friends by my side made this trip even better. Thanks for stopping by @daphne_smallwood 🥰

One thing about Philly… TWO things about AAAM…they know how to have a GOOD time. 😂

Some of the best networking happens outside of the conference.

I loved bringing my friend @ultimate.girly.girl along to the party at the Barnes, running into another friend while we were out, which eventually led to a good old-fashioned girls’ night.

The work is important, but so is making time to enjoy the people and places that make the work worthwhile.

This trip to Philly was:

1 part business
2 parts community
3 parts what it feels like to be on mission and in alignment with the work we’re building through @stapledonarts

We came to make connections, build partnerships, and share our products.

We left with new relationships, new possibilities, and some really good memories.
