Sometimes, hearing a loved one’s voice can make all the difference.

For Ofelia Banalo, 67, gradual hearing loss made conversations harder. Over time, she began pulling away from the people and moments that mattered most.

In 2016, Starkey Hearing Foundation provided Ofelia with her first hearing aids, helping her reconnect with family, friends, and everyday life.

Nearly 10 years later, after an accident damaged her hearing aids, Ofelia returned to us for support.

In 2025, she was fit with new hearing aids and once again able to hear the conversations, laughter, and voices of the people she loves.

Ofelia’s story is also a reminder of why aftercare matters. Hearing healthcare is not a single moment. It is an ongoing relationship that helps people stay connected to their families, communities, and the world around them.

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, we recognize the power of human connection and the role hearing can play in reducing isolation and helping people feel included.

So the World May Hear.

Today, we celebrate the teachers who do more than educate. They inspire, empower, and help create lasting change.

On World Teachers’ Day, we recognize the dedicated educators at Starkey Hearing Institute Latin America in El Salvador, Starkey Hearing Institute Asia Pacific in the Philippines, and Starkey Hearing College in Zambia, who are preparing the next generation of hearing healthcare professionals.

Their impact extends far beyond the classroom.

Every student trained brings new opportunities to a community. Every graduate who returns home carries the knowledge and skills to help more people hear, connect, and participate fully in the world around them.

This is how we build lasting change, by investing in people who will continue making a difference for generations to come.

To our educators around the world, thank you for sharing not only your knowledge, but your compassion and commitment to helping others.

So the World May Hear.

“Seeing the look on his face when he could hear was something I’ll never forget. It’s such a simple thing we can take for granted, but in that moment you realize hearing isn’t just sound, it’s connection, it’s possibility. It opens up a whole new world.”

— Clifton Murray, The Tenors

One moment. A whole new world of possibility.

This is what So the World May Hear is all about. Creating connection, opening doors, and helping people experience more of the world around them.

Today, on World Gratitude Day, we’re reminded that sometimes the greatest gifts are the moments we get to share with one another.

At Starkey Hearing Foundation, we’re grateful for every person, family, partner, and community who helps us make those moments possible.
The gift of hearing can mean hearing a loved one’s voice, a child’s laughter, a first word, or simply feeling more connected to the world around you.

We’re grateful for every opportunity to help people hear and communicate.
Today and every day, we’re thankful for the power of connection. 🌎💙

“When I saw you, I saw God’s Mercy, and the hope I had lost was restored.”

For Mantoa Lebaka in Leribe, Lesotho, hearing means far more than sound. It means connection, independence, and the ability to provide for her family.

Mantoa first received hearing aids in 2015. Years later, when they stopped working, she found herself disconnected once again. As the primary provider for her children and grandchildren, she relies on community nutrition clubs and local work opportunities, many of which are shared simply by word of mouth. Without being able to hear, those opportunities became much harder to access.

Then one day, Mantoa spotted the Starkey Hearing Foundation team in her community.

Right outside her home, our team fitted Mantoa with new hearing aids. And once again, she could hear.

Today, Mantoa can reconnect with her community, pursue opportunities to support her family, and enjoy something that should never be taken for granted: conversations and laughter with her grandchildren.

This is why access to hearing healthcare matters. Restoring hearing can restore connection, opportunity, independence, and hope.

Restoring Sound and Reclaiming Dreams

For years, 29-year-old Aubrey Belarmino from Marilao, Bulacan, navigated life with profound hearing loss.

Born with hearing loss, Aubrey grew up watching his mother struggle to find affordable hearing care. She was able to get him his first hearing aid when he was six, but it didn’t last. From high school through college, Aubrey continued moving forward without hearing aids, determined not to let his hearing loss stand in the way of his future.

Everything changed when his family learned about Starkey Hearing Foundation. They held onto hope and waited for the opportunity to attend a hearing mission. When that day finally came, Aubrey was fitted with a new pair of hearing aids.

With the gift of sound came a renewed sense of confidence and independence. Six months ago, Aubrey took another big step forward, launching his own rug business in his hometown and beginning to build a future on his own terms.

Recently, Aubrey returned to our Aftercare Service when his hearing aids needed repair. He left hearing clearly again, with the smile and confidence that had become such an important part of his journey.

Aubrey’s story reminds us that hearing care is about so much more than sound. It can open doors, restore confidence, and give people the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
