Excited to share this new body of work as part of the @ecosocialseries show at @bigrampphilly

For the past two years I’ve been messing around with wild clay from a sand quarry in Millville, NJ (a waste byproduct/ nuisance for them). There is something unhinged and addictive about the level of care and consideration wild clay takes. Many tests, failures, and experiments leading to unknown territory.

For me, this body of work lives in the friction between deep geological time and the rapid pace of extraction. They embody fragmented infrastructures existing somewhere between ancient artifact and speculative ruin.

Honored to have this work in conversation with @sarahkanouse and @cynthia_hooper

Join us next Saturday at @bigrampphilly for the opening of the next exhibit site in Eco-Social Realism featuring the work of Cynthia Hooper, Sarah Kanouse, and Sean Starowitz.

Eco-Social Realism brings together artworks that show an increased in-
terest in infrastructural and bioregional practices that can visualize and
embody the territorial scale of both problems and solutions related to the
climate crisis. Hooper, Kanouse and Starowitz’s explorations of water and
electrical infrastructure through personal, observational and playful methods demonstrate a range of aesthetic and political commitments.

This is the 3rd exhibit in this series and was supported by @collectivefutures.info - See you at Big Ramp (2024 East Westmoreland Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19134, United States)! taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @starowitzprojects

Excited and honored to have a set of these on view as part of the Re:Form exhibition opening October 2.

Who or What shapes Freedom?
Come see how Philadelphia artists are reshaping the question.

Re:Form is a focused contemporary 2&3D art exhibition presented by Philadelphia Sculptors in alliance with Fall of Freedom, bringing together 33 Philadelphia-area artists to examine one of the most enduring — and most contested — ideas in American life: freedom.
In a city where the promises of American freedom were famously written into history, Philadelphia’s artists are asking what those promises look like now.

Re:Form offers a chance to look beyond the familiar stories and into the questions that remain unresolved: Who is free? Who decides? What happens when freedom is restricted, defended, challenged, or reclaimed? And what might freedom look like if we were willing to reshape it?

This free juried exhibition runs October 2 – 30, 2026, and is part of Philadelphia Open Studio Tours (POST).
Art on the Ave, 3808 Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia, PA

Come see what happens when artists refuse to leave freedom in a fixed form.

I’m beside myself at the opportunity to be a part of the Eco-Social Realism initiative this fall, curated by @miscprojects, in a three-person show with @cynthia_hooper and @sarahkanouse

At @bigrampphilly I’ll be showing new series of sculptures created from wild clay that I harvested from the Pine Barrens region.

October 10 - November 14, 2026
This exhibition will bring together artworks that show an increased interest in infrastructural and bioregional practices that can visualize and embody the territorial scale of both problems and solutions related to the climate crisis. The Big Ramp opening reception is on Saturday, October 10, 5-8pm. Save the date!

The multi venue exhibition and related programs will span from September 10 to December 19, 2026 across the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery at Haverford College (@hcexhibits), Rowan University Museum of Contemporary Art (@rowanuartmuseum), Street Road Artists Space (@streetroad_artistsspace), TILT Institute (@tiltinstitute), The Watershed (@watershedphl), Ulises (@ulisesbooks), and Facing Bench.

I was gifted a box of reference photographs taken by my great-grandfather many years ago. I’ve carried them with me from studio to studio, never quite sure what I would do with them.

By trade, he was a typesetter for the Batavia Daily News, but he lived to watercolor paint (and fly fish). I was fortunate enough to witness many of his paintings on the walls of the houses I grew up in. These photographs were part of how he studied the landscape.

Returning to them now has me mulling over what makes a landscape. Not just the places we look at, but how we learn to look in the first place.

137 views of Western New York through his eyes.

Starting with a mass-produced, “Made in China” souvenir bust of George Washington (a replica of the neoclassical original), I’ve been recasting and manipulating the form using clay sourced only from within the United States. I have about 300 made, with a lofty goal of atleast a 1,000. With the goal that none are the same.

The irony is intentional: bringing the American icon materially home to be reinvented. By repeating the form, the multiple becomes a tool for revealing slippage of meaning, and of national myth. It's an exploration of what happens when national symbols are re-grounded in domestic earth.

It’s not about immortalizing, but re-examining the material history we inherit.

As part of the @tyler_foundations 3D Principles course, students learn essential sewing techniques including soft sculpture basics. For their sewing machine demo project, they designed and created these awesome, functional aprons! So proud of the work they put in.
