it took navigating chronic pain and disability, learning to advocate for myself, and the power of community to get here. 💚

loud about my blessings, because i know i carry forward my ancestors, my bloodline, all those connected to me, and the world every time I choose to perserve and cultivate my gifts; how beautiful it is to be black and to be loved!

my grandfather scribbled novels in prison cells, my father overcame innumerable odds to become a first generation college graduate, and now my siblings and extended family continue on the legacy.

language has long existed as my lineage's vehicle to unprecedented outcomes - from song to dissertations - and i am honored to bear that torch as an english department alumni & budding artist!

my Detroit roots cannot be denied - was born here, graduated high-school here, and obtained my first degree here; this is really my city don't play with me!!

this journey didn't just require strength or smarts - i had to cultivate adaptability, humility, and an openness to the will of the divine, in addition to respect for all those who paved the way before me to get here. I walk away as:

✅️ Founder/President/Event Coordinator of the Wayne State University Writers Guild

✅️ National Debate Tournament #ndt Top 20 Team [shoutout to my debate partner @rashadreza !!]

✅️ 1st place (2024), 2nd place (2025) in the Phillip Lawson Hatch Jr. Memorial Writing Competition in English

✅️ 2nd place in the Tompkins Award for Poetry

✅️ Stephen H. Tudor Memorial Scholarship in Creative Writing

✅️ Joseph J. and Mary E. Yelda Endowed Merit Scholarship for English

✅️ lbex Arts Scholarship Award in Poetry

so many times it was easier to quit, yet here i am.

I am honored to be a 2026 delegate for the Ms. Full-Figured Michigan pageant, to take place on October 31st at The Riverbank Center (Milan, MI). I will be representing my coalition/platform @iyacoalitiondetroit - Earth is EveryONE's Home.

iya coalition's mission is to recognize the inherent value of all living beings, as we all derive from the same ONE source. 🌍🫂

iya coalition is a community united by a shared goal of mutual care, intentional organizing, and collective liberation, with the understanding that until ALL of us are free, no-one truly is.
