Well well well… this Friday we’re back with a very special guest alongside our monthly residents @markequark & @nikoicon … if you’ve listened to dance music over the last few decades you’d be hard pressed to have not come across the music from @startreeny of Metro Area.

Since he settled in New York City in the late 90s Darshan Jesrani has championed the spacey and soulful sound for which he is now known. His work, which largely revolves around the exploration and promotion of classic production techniques within contemporary dance music has earned him high praise and demonstrates creative potential beyond the narrow boundaries of the genre’s habits. Darshan’s solo outings under his own name on Chit Chat and Imogen Recordings continue his signature vibe, and his seminal Metro Area project (with partner Morgan Geist) has left an indelible mark upon the dance music landscape.

His Startree imprint, produced and distributed by Above Board, recently issued its 4th and 5th releases by new artist North Satellite, mixed by Jesrani himself. North Satellite’s “Core Discord” EP was recently selected for Bandcamp’s monthly “Best Electronic Music” feature. 2025 will see the release of remixes for North Satellite and Escort as well as new, original solo and collaborative music.

Over the past 18 years he has established himself as a touring DJ and musician, having played the likes of Sónar, Panorama Bar, Fabric, Dekmantel, Garden Festival, Rainbow Disco Club, Space and hundreds of others. As a party DJ he is known to freely mix his favorite dance music of the past four decades to joyous effect. taken in KIKU ROOM by @startreeny

10.10 - #UnderTheDiscoBall ft. Darshan Jesrani (Metro Area) 🌐🌐

@startreeny has forged an alliance with his partner Morgan Geist as #MetroArea hat has resulted in some of the most colorful, deep-feeling, melodic, and simplistic-yet-full-sounding dance music of the time that will no doubt translate decades ahead. Avoiding any strict sense of stylistic pigeonhole, Metro Area’s releases pay tribute to the bygone glory days of ‘70s and ‘80s boogie, old-school R&B, disco, and house; all the while keeping this timeless melting pot fresh with a modern edge that has skillfully avoided any trends that have coincided with the duo’s existence. Their unique blend of the synthetic and the organic, with equal passion for both early Detroit techno and Harlem-birthed underground disco (in addition to enthusiasm for Hindi soundtracks and jazz), has cultivated a small but fervent following that spans more than one generation of dance music fans and DJs.

We have a little surprise for Bandcamp Day today. It's a 'lost' Metro Area track from 2002 called "We Also Not." Originally appearing on the "More G.D.M." series on Tigersushi, "We Also Not" is the only song Metro Area has released outside of their EPs and album. Hope you'll check it out!
