Sometimes when you step away from a hobby, time passes quickly and the harder it seems to start over again…

The last time I threw on the wheel was November 2021, and I quit for no particular reason.

Today it felt freeing to let my hands play and my mind wander.

Realizing an old skill and creating a pot—however lopsided—was an empowering act of self care!

Do the hard thing and create something, anything!
And do it today because your heart and hands are asking for it.

The best part was ducking into aero on my bike heading South on wide open Lake Shore Drive… I soared like the mighty wind this city proudly claims, and with the most immaculate views of nature’s broad fresh water and humans’ glinting steel and glass towers, I became wholeheartedly familiar with the power and potential that’s always been in me. @varlo.apparel @supertri_usa taken in Lake Shore Drive. 8 months ago I was under anesthesia for reconstructive knee surgery…
Next weekend I am participating in one of the largest triathlons IN THE WORLD!

I have pushed the limits of my body and mind this year to train as a first-time competitive athlete, and SuperTri Chicago is the perfect event to test my performance.

Recognized by NAMI West Central Indiana as a Mental Health Ambassador, I hope my transformation empowers those affected by mental illness to find strength and become the directors of their own stories!

You are not alone!
You are in control.
You are strong.

Another ✅ on my 2026 Bucket List!

After many months of post operation recovery, multi-sport training, and psychological preparation, I am so proud to officially be a #triathlete !!

I have so much gratitude to have completed this challenge. 💗 This journey began long before I even signed up for the race, and it didn’t end at the finish line today…

I will be in a second triathlon this month, two weeks from now, and my advocacy for mental health and personal wellness will last a lifetime!

Race Mantra:

Meet one of our 2026 NAMIWalks West Central Indiana Ambassadors!
All her life, Diana “Lyn” Shelby lived with chronic knee pain. For more than 12 years, she was told it was something she simply had to live with, even as it limited her ability to compete in athletics and enjoy everyday life. The physical challenges she faced took a significant toll on her mental health.
In December, Lyn made the life-changing decision to undergo reconstructive knee surgery. Today, she’s not only reclaiming her mobility; she’s also training for two triathlons this August while raising funds for her NAMIWalks campaign.
Follow Lyn’s inspiring journey of resilience, recovery, and mental wellness, following along with her training and helping support her mission to make a difference for mental health in our community.

I am so lucky that this brilliant summer Sunday floated into my agenda! 🌞
10 mile kayak down Sugar Creek is real sweet paddling and now a favorite of my water-related recreation.

This question is typically a sign I found the edge of what I thought was possible… and crossed over it!

I’m not interested in playing it safe. Give me something that makes my palms sweat, my brain say “absolutely not,” and my body figure it out anyway. 😅
