Our kindergarten boys were so excited to have Headmaster Mason Lecky visit them this afternoon! Lecky introduced himself, spent time getting to know the boys better, answered questions, and read the modern classic children's book, "The Library Lion." by @stcva

Last Friday, our sixth graders spent time together with outside activities, games, races, and off-campus activities. For years, this has been one of our favorite Middle School traditions. Boys need to move, and this has been a great way to forge new friendships and bring them all closer as a class. by @stcva

Alumnus Ben White ’07 is doing incredible work to bring Richmonders together through the arts!

Along with Ian C. Hess and Kathleen Cortez, White co-founded @little.giant.society, a nonprofit that supports local artists. One of their latest projects is Richmond’s first Art Park, a dedicated space where artists, audiences, and the community gather, learn, share ideas and create.

The park will be located south of the James River, underneath Manchester Bridge, and along the Fall Line Trail. The vision for the space is inclusive and interactive, where anyone and everyone is encouraged to contribute and experience others’ work.

White shared the vision behind Little Giant Society and their work with us:

“Little Giant Society’s main purpose is to cultivate and scale Richmond’s thriving arts community by providing essential support, resources, and training for emerging talent and established artists. We’re currently striving to establish Richmond’s first dedicated ‘Art Park’ in order to cultivate a communal space to expand audiences and create creative opportunities for the wider Richmond community.”

Way to go, Ben! Congratulations on all of your creative work in the Richmond community!

This morning, our Middle School community, like their Upper School peers last week, assembled as a division to sign the Honor and Civility pledges. The signings, which hold faculty and students alike to a high standard of honesty and respect, are an essential part of their daily lives. StC's Honor Code holds everyone to the same standards of honesty and respect, which Liam, an eighth-grader, appreciates. "I think it's important that we all sign it together. It makes it more formal," he said. by @stcva

Our boys treasure their outdoor play spaces, and the newest addition, an upgraded sandbox and an enlarged shade structure, is already bringing them so much joy!

Today, Saints across divisions reflected on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

On a trip to Camp River's Bend this morning, the eighth grade raised a flag and said a prayer for those lost and those who helped save lives.

Upper School Science Department Chair Billy McGuire and Director of Information Systems and Academic Tech Hiram Cuevas wore first responder uniforms to honor the sacrifices and heroism of police and firefighters that day. McGuire is a longtime volunteer firefighter in Goochland County, and Cuevas' father was a career New York firefighter. They were joined by Upper School student John, whose father served as Goochland County fire chief for several years, and Upper School Science Teacher Elizabeth Jeffress, who was an EMT and volunteer firefighter in Goochland County and Pennsylvania, and who comes from a long line of first responders.

US students in Josh Thomas' history class discussed the attacks and their effect on world history. In our Middle School, students in Global Thinking classes discussed the historical impact, heard personal stories from faculty, and watched parts of "Man in the Red Bandana," a 2017 film about Welles Remy Crowther, who gave his life to save at least 18 people from the World Trade Center's South Tower. Students in Hill Brown's history classes also discussed the attacks' impact on the United States and the years that followed, including personal stories from faculty who remembered where they were that day. #911 by @stcva

"We're not just trying to be good students. We're trying to be good people," said Upper School Honor Council Chairman Christian Both '27. This morning, US students and faculty gathered in Memorial Chapel to sign the Honor Pledge and Civility Statements, which hold the community to the highest standards of academic integrity, character, and respect.

Before the ceremony, participants heard from student representatives from the Missionary Society and the Honor Council. During the event, each US student and faculty member was called forward to sign the pledge. "The Honor Code definitely changed my life," said Both. "I like to think of this event as the actual start of the school year, because it reinforces how important our morals and integrity are to each other." by @stcva

This morning, we were delighted to see our seniors once again escort their kindergarten buddies across St. Christopher's Road to the All-School Opening Service on the Terraces. Parents, faculty, and students from every division took part in the ceremony, which celebrates the new year as one community. Upper School Student Council President Michael Sleeker '27 addressed participants and discussed his journey as a council member. "It gave me a chance to serve my class and eventually the school," said Sleeker.

Initially ambivalent about taking on extra responsibilities and being in the spotlight, Sleeker discussed his appreciation of the opportunities, relationships, and personal growth he's gained as a council member, and asked participants to take this lesson to heart. "As we start another school year, I encourage everyone to do one thing that makes you uncomfortable," he said. "You never know what might come from simply saying 'yes.'" by @stcva
