Rather than creating another conventional large warship, the SO-RR1 concept concentrates propulsion power, automation, advanced navigation, communications, aviation support and mission flexibility into a comparatively compact high-speed platform. The vessel would use an aggressive low-profile hull and reduced-signature superstructure combined with a very high-output propulsion system. The design objective is to achieve exceptionally high sustained transit performance while retaining the endurance required for Australian and regional maritime operations. Its stern incorporates one helicopter landing pad. There is no aircraft-carrier-style flight deck and no second helipad. The aviation facility is intended to support rapid helicopter arrival, casualty evacuation, personnel transfer, search-and-rescue operations and emergency logistics without allowing the aviation requirement to dominate the vessel. The SO-RR1 is intended to be evaluated as a class-leading rapid-response vessel rather than making an unverified claim that it is already the world's fastest or most powerful naval ship.
