This one feels special. The King Seiko 75th Anniversary Peanuts edition #SDKV011 is very much a deep cut for the collectors. A celebration of 75 years of King Seiko paired with Snoopy is not something you see every day, and somehow it just works.

There is something really charming about mixing a serious heritage line like King Seiko with a playful character that so many of us grew up with. It feels thoughtful, nostalgic, and a little bit nerdy in the best way possible. Definitely one of those pieces that makes sense if you know, and even more satisfying if you really know.

Kicking off the year with this feels pretty right.

The Australian Open is officially underway, and I went down to Royal Melbourne to watch the boys swing it. I know, I know… golf is usually a Rolex territory, but with Rory headlining the event, it felt right to bring out the Omega Silver Snoopy. The same model he famously wore after winning at Augusta to complete his grand slam.

Sometimes the story matters more than the stereotype.

The OG Pepsi? 🥤

Before the world argued over the Pepsi GMT, there was already a diver quietly doing it its own way. Red and blue bezel, no shortcuts, just purpose built design that earned its place the hard way.

The SKX009 never tried to be anything else and that is exactly why it still holds up today.

The original sunburst? ✨

Looking at this Datejust 31 got me thinking. These days everyone talks about textured dials, colourful dials, and how the light plays across them. Meanwhile, Rolex has been doing sunburst dials for decades.

It is such a simple thing, but it works. Indoors it looks boring. Step outside and suddenly the dial comes alive.

Maybe the old guys were onto something after all.

Take a closer look 🔍🌑

The little rocket gets all the attention, and honestly, I get it. But flip the Dark Side of the Moon over and there’s another detail that deserves some love.

The moon imprints worked into the movement are easy to miss, which is probably why I like them so much. Just a small nod to the story behind the watch sitting quietly on the caseback.

Night shift 🌑

The Grand Seiko Night Birch is one of those watches that gets more interesting the longer you stare at it. Inspired by the birch forests at night, the textured dial constantly changes depending on the light, going from almost black to revealing all the little details hidden in it.

Underneath sits the Hi Beat 36000 movement, ticking away at 10 beats per second. You do not get the smooth Spring Drive sweep here, but there is something satisfying about knowing this thing is running at 36,000 vibrations an hour. Quiet on the outside, proper engineering underneath.
