Tomorrow night, Friday, August 28 at 7:30pm will be a rare opportunity, to experience Lou Harrison’s instruments played inside of the beautiful acoustic ‘great room’ of the Harrison House. Our music sanctuary was, in fact, designed by Harrison for an optimum listening experience for these instruments.

We are happy to welcome internationally renowned percussionist, William Winant who worked closely with Lou Harrison and many of the composers whose work he will be performing including Harold Budd, James Tenney, Pauline Oliveros, Zeena Parkins and currently with Chessa-Winant Duo, with Luciano Chessa,.

William Winant “experimental/avant garde percussionist has led a wide ranging remarkable career as a soloist and collaborator with artists who come from diverse musical and artistic interests. Winant, was Lou Harrison’s go to percussionist having premiered a number of works written by our namesake composer. Winant, a 2014 Grammy nominated percussionist is known for his work in contemporary classical music, noise rock, and free improvisation”. He has been written about extensively including in the NY Times: “Willie Winant, ...a unique force of nature and one that will inspire us forever”; Wire Magazine: “One of the most wide-ranging musicians in North America” The Creative Independent “A dazzling virtuoso”

Luciano Chessa, is an Italian born composer and audiovisual/performance artist. As our 2026 Residency Fellow, he will be curating a portion of the season in addition to creating his own performances. Luciano Chessa’s work has been praised for its immersive, meditative, and conceptually rigorous engagement with sound, movement, and materiality. His most recent critically acclaimed installation at the Galleria d’Arts Moderna in Turin, Italy was an extension of the work he developed during his Harrison House residency earlier this year.

This will be a rare opportunity to hear historic instruments designed by Lou Harrison and his partner, William Colvig and a treat to hear the rich musical legacy Winant is bringing.
