Our beloved little dog, Karma, passed this week. She was almost 18.5 years old. She survived a bee sting at age 16, & an ear infection at age 17. She was feisty & fearless beyond her 15 pound frame. Our house isn't the same without her in it. by @steamquirk

Today's gaming session was a 6-player, Coalitions, by Phalanx Games. I played the Ottomans. It was a learning game for all of us & Russia ended up winning followed closely by Austria, France & Britain. Would love to play this one again.

Last week we played a 4 player, Shogun, by Milton Bradley which was an Oldie from 1986. It plays like Risk, but set in Japan.

We had to end early due to time restraints & the Orange faction ended up winning the day. Pretty neat game which I'd also play again. by @steamquirk

Final day of Comic Con was Sunday & in honor of Star Trek's 60th Anniversary we donned our "Shore Leave Star Trek Lounge Officers" costumes. They always bring a smile to Trekkies. by @steamquirk

Third day of Comic Con was Saturday. We pulled out our best Steampunk costumes (haven't done Steampunk in a long time) as we were going to attend a special Super Hero High Tea at the Westgate Hotel.

Walking through the Gaslamp area in a wool uniform in the heat was rough, but we actually got applause from the onlookers & crowds of people. So it was all worth it. by @steamquirk

Day 2 of Comic Con (yesterday, Friday) we wore our new Fallout duds. Complete with Plasma rifle and handguns, plus functional Pip Boys 3000 wrist computers.

We got compliments from the other Fallout fans at the photoshoot meetup & panel later that day. by @steamquirk

Thursday, Day 1 of Comic Con. We reprised our Hell's Kitchen chefs (with Ratattoiulle) from last year and it was a big hit with everyone all day long, especially with restaurant staffs. by @steamquirk

Well, it's that time of year. The calm before the storm. Comic Con starts tomorrow through Sunday. Our costumes are lined up & we're ready to go.

Previous two weeks we played Baltic Wars and Brettwalda at our Thursday morning game days.

Baltic Wars was a nailbiter with a different faction on the verge of winning every turn, but just not able to satisfy that last victory condition.

Eventually Charlie took the game as Sweden by outlasting everyone & gaining the lead in the hegemony tables.

Brettwalda was a solid game & the graphics are beautiful, but it's hard to read & pronounce all those Old English names!

I think Mercia ended up winning. by @steamquirk

Today's gaming session was a learning one, Dune, War for Arrakis. I played the Harkonnens & Miguel was House Atriedes.

We ran out of time, & while I was ahead on points Atriedes successfully blunted both my efforts at gaining a winning seitch.

It's not a hard game to grasp once you start playing & there are lots & lots of choices for strategy & tactical moves. (And the game pieces add to the enjoyment).

Definitely want to play this one again! by @steamquirk

At today's Thursday morning meetup 5 of us played Commands & Colors Napoleonics. Rich & I were the British-Dutch defending Quatre-Bras against Marshal Ney's forces.

The dice gods were with us as we slaughtered the French. It seemed as if we could do no wrong.

Last week we played Star Wars Outer Rim. I think it was the 3rd time I've played the game. I was Lando & pulled out a win. by @steamquirk

At our Thursday gaming meetup we played Dune Imperium, a resource management game that 3 of us had never played before. Everyone caught on real fast, except me, as I floundered like a beached whale.

On Saturday I did much better with Twilight Imperium. I'd never played this one before either, but I took an early lead & ended up coming in 2nd place.

A fun week overall. by @steamquirk

Attended a local miniatures wargame convention. Haven't played miniatures in years. There was a huge range of genres presented from sci-fi, Star Wars, modern, WW2, American Civil War, Napoleonics, Pony Wars, Mexican-French battle, Ancients & a lot more which I didn't recognize.

Had a go with a simple one, Operation Enduring Prehistoric and played the dinosaurs, all of whom bit the dust.

Then tried out a big space battle with Red Alert, which uses the Commands & Colors system. Had better luck with this one as we pulled out a victory 18-14.

Lots of fun & all of the miniatures were gorgeous. taken in La Mesa Community Center:4975 Memorial Dr, La Mesa, CA 91942 by @steamquirk
