Another fun weekend in Indy with our bestie travel buddy, Lindsay! Great visit with Doug and Julie and a kick ass Fever game where we FINALLY got to see Caitlyn Clark play! Now, you all know I’m not the biggest (or even) a sports fan, but watching her play was beyond impressive. Her behind the back passes and ridiculous 3 point range were insane. Enjoyed a beautiful campsite, got in a few pickleball games, and enjoyed the heck out of all being together. Until next time! Go Fever!!! by @steele.away

Happy birthday to you!!!

Looking through pictures from this last year, I realized how much we manage to squeeze into 365 days. The highs and lows. The celebrations and the grief. The cross country trips and the ordinary days at home. All the games, tailgates, and camping. Moving kids in, out, over, back in, and back out. From the chaos of a house full of kids to the quiet of becoming empty nesters.

There’s no one I’d rather do it all with. I love the crazy life we’ve created, and even more, I love that I get to share it with you.

Remember when I made you major in marketing instead of premed your first semester of college because you have flawless taste and it wouldn’t have a bajillion years of schooling? Ok, so it’s possible that I maybe could’ve been have been wrong about that. Because wow…that white coat looks awfully damn good on you, sir. Spent a few days checking out Josh’s new stomping grounds before he started school. He had a perfect itinerary - Santa Monica, Venice, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, Melrose, Malibu. Even managed to make it to the Griffith Observatory at sunset-bucket list! Of all the places we saw, Pasadena-his new home-was by far our favorite. And while it felt less pretentious than other parts of LA, there was still a Rolls Royce in the grocery store parking lot to remind you that you were very much in “Cali”. A Mother’s Day weekend I’ll remember always with both my kiddos home!!!

Last night, we celebrated Jessie being home for the summer after a great first year of college AND a whirlwind end of med school application season for Josh, which took one full year from start to end.

He was fortunate to be accepted into several schools, with SLU being the first and where he planned to attend. Until this week happened.

Josh was accepted into his dream school, his number one choice all along, Kaiser Permanente Medical School in Pasadena, CA. It’s one of the most competitive med schools in the country with over 11,500 applicants, 700 interviewees, for a class size of 50. It’s known for its state-of-the-art facilities and focus on student wellness (I mean it has a yoga studio, meditation deck, full gym, rooftop garden, etc. It’s like the Google of med schools!) And even more remarkable, he will be in the last incoming class to get free tuition along with a generous stipend that will cover the full amount of his living expenses for all 4 years.

Emotions have been all over the place and I think we’re still in a bit of shock. It’s a big adjustment to go from thinking he would be in StL, most likely living with us, for the next 4 years to now being in California. But more than anything, we are so overwhelmingly grateful.

Moving this kiddo 1700 miles away is going to be so tough and I’m a complete weepy mess but knowing that he’s going to a an outstanding school, in a gorgeous area of the country, and won’t be burdened with hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt definitely makes this easier.

Josh…you worked harder than anyone could ever possibly know to get to this moment. Enjoy every second because you earned it. You will never cease to amaze me kid.

These milestone moments and it being Mother’s Day makes me think even more about my mom. When she found out she was dying, she said her biggest regret was not being able to see how her “darling grandbabies” would turn out as adults. Oh mom…if you could only see them now. ❤️❤️ by @steele.away
