We are delighted to announce the student films in competition for Best Student Film:ttff/20 Best Student Film: ‘La Pieza de Casseus (The Raging Dance of Casseus),’ directed by Camilo Mejía from the Dominican RepublicThe jury notes: “we all found it to be a compelling and relevant story, with a very rhythmic, creative and natural approach. It was the most cohesive in terms of direction, editing, performances, sound, production design, production and emotional impact. We journeyed with Casseus in real and magical realms and it is a journey we would have liked to see continue. After fleeing Haiti, Steeven’s path took him through the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, refugee camps in Germany, and eventually to the United States in 2023. Along the way, he confronted racism, violence, legal uncertainty, economic hardship, and the constant search for a place to belong. Throughout his journey, dance remained his anchor.
