Just saw 4 whales for the first time in real life. 🐋 Those are humpback whales that feed in northern Iceland because the water is rich in nutrients and so in krill and little fishes like herring and mackerels. For breeding season, they travel for around 2-3 months to the Caribbean Sea at a speed of around 4-5 knots. 🪢 why? Because the calfs doesn’t have so enough fat on their bodies and would not survive the cold arctic sea. Fun fact: a calf drinks around 500 liters of milk per day and those whales will become a length of around 15-17 meters. taken in Iceland, Akureyri by @stefan.f997
