our first dinner in this place we had no furniture and we ate take out on our cardboard box dinner table, dreaming about the future. it felt right to have our last dinner here the same way.

five years later it's time to close our chapter in Latimer. bittersweet as we have loved living here and made some amazing memories.

life rips. to the next chapter. love yours

the actual myth:

"Long ago, an elderly king named Barom-Mai married the beautiful Madayaw-Bayho, but she did not love him. His wealth and power could not win her affection, so he sought help from Impit Purok, a hermit with magical knowledge.
The hermit requested three ingredients: an egg from a black tabon bird, twelve ladles of milk from a spotless white carabao, and nectar from the magical tree-of-make-believe. Together, they would soften the queen’s heart and make the king appear young and handsome to her. Philippine Literature

With supernatural help, Barom-Mai gathered the ingredients. The hermit mixed them and told him to plant the mixture. In return, the king promised to honour him at a celebration.

A miraculous tree grew, bearing delicious fruit. When Madayaw-Bayho ate it, the magic worked: she saw a handsome young king and fell in love with him. Barom-Mai held a great feast—but forgot to invite the hermit.

Angered by the king’s ingratitude, Impit Purok cursed the fruit. Its smooth skin became covered in sharp thorns, and its pleasant fragrance turned into a foul smell. Its flesh, however, remained delicious.
And that, according to the legend, is why durian tastes so sweet beneath its prickly shell and pungent smell.

The tale also offers a lesson about gratitude and keeping promises."

what a joy and privilege to stand up beside Hildy on his big day!

from sleeping on Lucas' floor, multiple college hockey championships, big trips across the world, late nights of Catan, coaching hockey together and all the life in between...I'm grateful to be doing this thing called life with you.

It's been such a pleasure watching the joy in your life grow alongside your relationship with Rianna.

congratulations and blessings to the happy couple... you're going to have your hands full @riannaaa_alexis but you've picked yourself up an amazing teammate for life.

I got asked today if "I just really liked purple" as I unintentionally arrived at the gym with purple pants, purple headphones, purple water bottle, purple socks, and a purple coffee mug.

to be honest i had not meant to have thaaaat much purple at once and it was a funny observation, but I do like purple a lot.

I remember when I was a kid, purple was my favorite color. Maybe it was hand me downs from my sister, like my bike (her old one she outgrew) that was a deep eggplant purple, or maybe I just innately liked it. I don't know. I think the adults in my life at the time steered me to more "boy' colors because they didn't want me to be bullied. I don't really remember (I was 5) but fair enough.

anyways, here's me enjoying an open gym clean day. purple everything. I think aside from technical skill, the biggest hurdle for heavy cleans is commitment and a willingness to get under the weight and catch it. it can be scary. not to get so philosophical about the weights but the version of you who wants to wear all purple or WHATEVER is the one who is also willing to get up under the weight.
