About 6 months after moving to Nashville in ‘89 Dolly came into the studio where I was working. I greeted her with “hello Ms Parton, can I get you a cup of coffee?” she replied to me with a giggle and said “ first off you call me Dolly, second I’ll get some coffee for cause I make great coffee.” we both got our coffee that she had made, and it was delicious, then we sat there and talked for about a half an hour and gossiped and laughed and told stories.
About two months later (when artist still hung out like normal people in stores), she was in front of me at Walgreens over in the 12th S. area. She turned around and saw me and she remembered my name and she said.” Well hello Steffie, I’m Dolly Parton, we met in the studio where you work” (as if I couldn’t remember that)Then she noticed that one of the gossip magazines like national inquire had her on the front saying that she was an alien and we both giggled so hard and she said “don’t tell anyone, but that is true” and we laughed some more.
I’ve met several artists since living in Nashville. I don’t have much to say about any of them good or bad, but Dolly, as wonderful as you can imagine she was, she was 1 million times more wonderful and kind. I don’t think she had an insincere bone in her body. Now the world is mourning this loss. For me when the world got horrible and hateful some how Dolly seemed to bring peace to my heart, she allowed me and the world to believe everything would be ok. She was a touch stone to us all. But if she was who we all know she was, right about now she is walking up to God and saying in that sweet polite way ….. “God….we need to talk about somethings” so now with her up there, I have to believe things will still be ok. by @steffmahan
