So many times during trainings in the past decade, I question how it can ever get easier, because it will never be. In fact, it will get harder.

But everytime I race, I find myself drawn to something that brings me back, everytime. 13 marathons later, I still feel humbled each time; by the sport and the people doing it. Alongside my husband who is my training advisor, when I need to bounce off ideas.

Sydney and I have a weird affinity: an aud30 entry in 2024 for someone with no race plans; and 2 years later - it is a guaranteed star that made me return to Australia. What a special star it is to me, and JS said: “you’re meant to go back and race it again”

For the congratulatory messages, thank you for taking time to comment, and reading my long ass reflections - really appreciate them 🙏🏽 i hope you also find your way to love running.

Through this experience, I hope to acknowledge myself for once, the work i’ve poured into, especially in the past year.

Even if I didnt meet the BQ buffer, it doesn’t diminish my potential and work, and the enjoyment in each of these 3 stellar races for me.

I’ll be patient for that day when the turn becomes mine🫡
Always thankful for the ability to put my best feet forward to toe these start and finish lines! 🧡

To the future races, i’ll continue to work hard and hope to find a sweet spot to also enjoy the training!

My second year with @xandrolab and their magnesium glycinate!

The improved unbuffered version contains 100% chelated magnesium - gentler on the tummy and helps reduce muscle soreness! Its highly recommended by my physio to take before sleep as Glycine helps the nervous system wind down.

Currently team xandro’s running a mid autumn discount - check their supplements out! by @steffyduffyy

Decided to write my race sentiments on my return flight. It hardly makes a race review because the course didn’t change much - but the runner’s mentality in me did in several ways.

When the time to register for my guaranteed slot came - I was skeptical. I wasn’t sure if I need to do a difficult course twice if I wasn’t at all, chasing the stars. I had other overseas races I wanted to attempt and Sydney wasn’t the easiest course to train or recover from. JS insisted that I should do it again, for the friends who also agreed to return that year. “It would be so fun!!”

After my Shangma, my disinterest in Sydney grew stronger as I was afraid of getting injured while I wanted to learn to be more consistent to race. I needed more races under my belt (in my mind “flat PB course”) where i could try experiencing “turning the speed”, and for Syd - I had no confidence I can race the slopes well. I was very doubtful, it was a beautiful course, but it wasn’t one of my favourite cities… so… I had no motivation.

Everytime I told JS how reluctant I am to return, he said, “dont forget how you learnt to race because of Sydney. You used to run at comfort - it was that race that taught you that you can; and want more.”

13 weeks came and I had to tune into training. I started slow with a longer break from Wuhan, and a base of 15km LR. It went slow, my long distance runs felt unaccomplished, and i couldn’t turn up the distance as quickly as I did for my prior two blocks.

I continued to turn up to do the work though remaining doubtful what it could mean to execution. Unlike the 2 earlier blocks, I ran lesser, had a weaker block with no long runs built with marathon pace. Every run felt like I was obligated and forced into it. I am rather close to feeling a mental burnout (or it felt like that).

I can only continue because I signed up for it and a pressure with 6 minutes to get closer to BQ. I don’t have anyone to account to, but myself yet I can no longer go into a race without putting in my best because, I know how it felt when I didnt.

T-3 weeks (peak), I caught a nasty bug and bed rest for 2 days. That feeling sucked as I had a 33km long run to do, but inside me - I was al by @steffyduffyy

please rise for my longest ever long run… *drumrolls* thirty FIVE!

I actually surprised myself by doing this long but the weather’s good, the legs feel great and im not as hungry as the previous week so cards are good for a longer run 🫡

Struck my zone 2 (can go on forever) pace of 6:10-6:20 and it went on well to reach a new training record. 很好 我为我骄傲

I dont know what race pace i’ll try doing but i know i have it in me to now race 💪🏻 #marathon #sydneymarathon #singapore #singaporerunning by @steffyduffyy
