I went on a field trip the other day to @thewellreddamsel in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. It is this amazingly cute romance book store. I spent a good hour or so just going from room to room in the shop looking at everything before picking out what I wanted. Everything is curated so well; there’s stickers, blind date with a book, drink warmers, kindle/book protectors, signed books, journals, book lights, stuffies, and so much more.

I bought four books and a couple of extra trinkets and could have easily spent a whole lot more! If any of you are in the Milwaukee area for ANYTHING, check them out! I came all the way from the Madison area to check them out!

(Added a little Pumpkin 🐱 to spice up the carousel!)

While You Were Screaming is a fun sequel to How To Kill a Guy In Ten Dates that pits two former academic rivals (with some complicated history) against each other as they pose as a couple to infiltrate a couples retreat that might be a cover for something more shady. Filmmaker Laurie and podcaster Connor go head to head in a delicious mix of romance and eerie suspense. I inhaled this within a day and was in turns swooning and at the edge of my seat during the more creepier parts.

Can they manage to stand each other for a full week? Can they get to the bottom of a potentially creepy dude running a romantic retreat like a cult? Can they stop staring at each other every chance they get? And why are people screaming all the time???

I really liked this one and I dare say it’s better than the first book! Shailee Thompson does a really good job of fleshing out her characters, even the side ones. The pacing was quick, the banter was witty, and the sexual tension was palpable. It was more creepy than scary to me until the very end, which is okay! I liked the informational tidbits at the beginning of each chapter about cults. I love learning while I’m reading! Readers of Riley Sager and Brynne Weaver will love this!

Here’s a couple of Sunday morning book stacks I put together to take my mind off my fantasy football team since Marcus Mariota got hurt this morning. 😬

A green and gold book stack for the Packers:
- GRRM “A Storm of Swords”
- Matt Dinniman “Carl’s Doomsday Scenario”
- Erich Maria Remarque “All Quiet On The Western Front”
- Blake Crouch “Recursion”
- SJM “Kingdom of Ash”
- Riley Sager “Home Before Dark”

The next stack is a Brewers stack as they are in the NLDS against the Padres. I am nothing if not a Wisconsin sports girly. That game last night nearly gave me a heart attack. The additional books in this stack are:
