Als @evajinek woorden geeft aan je verhaal is dat toch even slikken om terug te lezen. Maar het is wie ik ben. Wie ik ben geworden en waar ik nu sta. En daar ben ik stiekem, eigenlijk toch wel verdomd trots op!
Het is ook slikken om alle bijzondere, mooie en lieve reacties te mogen ontvangen. Sjonge wat zijn er toch veel lieve mensen op de wereld.

Beloofd is beloofd. Ook nog na 2,5 jaar. Waar ik op het eerste doek alleen de naam Pax zelf schreef, schreef Pax nu zijn eigen naam én die van zijn zusje. Drie generaties in 1 doek.
De tijd gaat snel. De dag is zo voorbij. Droom groot, werk hard en pak elke dag aan om je droom waar te maken.

A commissioned piece is never just a result. It’s a process. A shared experience.

I take you with me. Through updates, photos, timelapses, framing, finishing touches.
Because the relationship matters. The experience matters. The process matters.

Even when you buy an original, you’re part of the journey.
Sometimes you help choose the frame.
Sometimes you see the final detailing before I wrap it up.

All those little moments,
they make the art even more yours.

And if you’ve ever received a video from me… you’ll know it always starts the same: a raised finger, a big smile and an energetic “Hallo!” or “Good morning!”.. hahaha..

A couple of weeks ago, I gave away this (40 × 60 cm) fine art print to one of my newsletter subscribers as part of my birthday celebration.

The winner was Danny and it was a lovely coincidence that she lives quite close to me. That meant I could personally deliver the portrait to her, which made it even more special.

I love knowing that something I created with nothing but lines and a lot of patience and attention is now hanging in someone else’s space.

From my hands to a new home. Definitely one of my favourite parts of making art.

'Hello. Look. Just a little update.'
If you’ve ever bought a piece of my work or worked with me, you’ll probably recognise this.

I send my clients a lot of videos.

While I’m working.
When something is being framed.
When something is finished.
Or simply when I have something I want to show them.

And apparently, I start almost every single one in exactly the same way.

It all starts with a drawing. A design. An idea in my head.
Before there is yarn, there is colour choices, shapes to make, decisions about light and shadow, and countless little choices that give a face its character.

Then I translate it into textile.

I always have music playing when I’m in the studio. Loud. Sometimes I get so carried away that I simply have to stop working and dance for a moment.

And music plays another important role in my work too.

The commissioned pieces I create always get the title of a song. I search for that one song and title that somehow captures the work, the story and the feeling behind it.

So yes, there is usually a lot of music, singing and dancing happening in my studio. This is just a little glimpse.

What do we actually see when we look at someone?

With 'Painted Fragments' I wanted to explore how little we need to recognise someone, and how much our imagination fills in the rest. The fragments emerge from layers of colour, almost as if a paintbrush has swept across the surface and revealed what lies underneath.

Because perhaps seeing someone is never about seeing everything.
It's not about revealing everything.
Sometimes a fragment is enough.

Being an artist is only part of the job. And sometimes, things go wrong.

You see.. There is also the website to maintain. The artworks to photograph. Invoices to send. Administration to do. Taxes to file. Newsletters to manage. And about a hundred other things I never imagined would be part of being an artist.

And sometimes, things go wrong.

Recently, I discovered that two 'Wonderings' works had somehow ended up on the 'Strings Attached' series page.
That was interesting.

Last week I found out, I accidentally marked this piece as sold. Except it wasn't sold.

So for a while, one of my earliest works was apparently sold without anyone actually buying it. How did I do that?

I honestly have no idea how some of these things happen.
But I'm learning as I go. And I have accepted that I simply cannot do everything perfectly. So I fix it, laugh about it, and move on.

Looking back at 'Woman' from the 'Beneath the Surface' series.

The people who commissioned this piece had seen another work from the series, but it was too small for their space.

So we created something together that was made especially for them.
I remember our contact as such a lovely experience. The whole process was a joy from beginning to end.

I'm currently creating a third work from the series as a commissioned piece too. Such lovely people too! And I have to tell you: it's going to be an amazing piece!

P.S. In most series I leave a spot open to create a piece within that serie range but in your specific size. I still have one artwork to create for the 'Strings Attached' series. That could also become a work made especially for you and your space. by @steilstudio

I almost threw this one in the trash. She was almost finished. But I couldn’t feel her. It was something in her eyes and it didn't felt good.

And somehow, that was enough to make the entire artwork feel wrong.

So I took some distance before I went back in. Then I changed a few colours, adjusted some shapes and reworked small sections around her eyes.

It took me almost two days. And in the end, I had changed so little. And still everything was different.

Her expression felt lighter. More intense. More mysterious.
And that's when I felt her, her vibe and energy and was able to finish her perfectly.
She's one of my favourite pieces. Sold immediately. And I totally get that.

Sometimes the smallest changes can completely change everything.
