"One Easter, as I looked at the cross, I no longer saw suffering. I saw wildflowers blooming, hummingbirds drinking sweetness, butterflies rising on the breath of God. Golgotha in bloom. Death undone. New creation.
I am that hummingbird — drinking living water. I am that butterfly — breaking free of an old cocoon. Jesus made me new.
This painting is my offering to Him — a praise, a testimony, a declaration of the new life He gave me. Holy, holy, holy is the Lamb who was and is and is to come."

"Thought behind thought.
Consciousness of all consciousness.
Source of loving awareness.
Being of my being.
Because of Love,
I Am,
Love.
My First,
My Last.
Everlasting to Everlasting.
Vibration behind Vibration,
Ignites the mighty explosion.
And of all the syntax-creations conjured,
Nothing compares to You!
The Unfathomable,
Eternal.
And for the sake of unity,
I humbly give you:
The One and Only,
Inexplicable,
 Holy!"

This painting in acrylics is called "Messengers of the Meadow" to commemorate a moment when I asked for a "little sign" and in that moment, a hummingbird swooped down and started buzzing around my head. Spirit has Its own beautiful language and I am constantly craving communion with God. I wrote the poem "Phoenix" when art and writing became my healing. And here it is:

Phoenix
And so you pick up the ugly broken pieces
And make a mosaic out of it.
When everything is destroyed it can be spring again.
And proudly display your pretty mess and say:
"Look what art grew in the womb of pain.
Watch me rise. I'm a phoenix, not a cage bird!"

By Stella Corbett

Sending out blessings of love and light.
Love,
Stella 🌻💜

These paintings are part of a series I call “Messengers of the Meadow.”
The painting with the two sunflowers is titled “Messenger of the Meadow.”
I painted it after a moment when I felt utterly hopeless. I prayed and asked God to send me “a little sign.” And in that exact moment, a hummingbird flew down toward me as I sat beside a creek — hovering in front of my face and above my head.
Spirit speaks in symbols, and God uses everything in creation to reach us.
Sometimes it’s a butterfly.
Other times a feather, a cloud, or the kind smile of a stranger.
But God speaks — we need only listen.
Sometimes Spirit speaks in the quiet of meditation, or in the song of the morning breeze, just as God spoke to Elijah:
“And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.”
(1 Kings 19:12, NLT)
The painting with the poppies and two hummingbirds is called “The Wind that Moves the Meadow.”
For me, wind is a symbol of the Holy Spirit — the same Spirit described at Pentecost:
“Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm… and everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit.”
(Acts 2:2–4, NLT)
While painting it, I thought about all the things I fear and worry about. But I’m reminded that it is God who is in control. It is Spirit that moves the meadow. We can rest in the knowledge that we are held in everlasting arms of grace and love.
The story isn’t over.
The dark night of the soul will pass.
And if it’s not good yet, then God is not finished writing your story.
The hummingbirds and flowers remind me of one of my favourite passages:
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them.”
“Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow… yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.”
(Matthew 6:26, 28–29, NLT)
“Therefore do not worry… But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Once again, the message is clear:
Do not worry.
Plans may fail and circumstances may change, but God’s love and protection remain constant.

"Winter Messenger" Painting in acrylics by Stella Corbett.
I painted this in the midst of winter, a Christmas card for next year. And here's a poem I wrote today 💗

Hey Rebel!
Yes, you.
Audacious in your hope,
While the world laments the end of its rope.
Threadbare and torn,
Worn thin from the tug and pull of the us and them.
We dance on!
Drawing beauty in the dust of atomic snow.
As the light of the world is turned down to an all time low.
While senile kings make plans to attack,
Rebels want to bring connection back.
Dare to take pictures of simple pleasures,
In protest to the race for material treasures.
Make your empathy excessive,
And your carbon footprint small.
Know that we are one,
One,
And all.
Against all odds and senile kings,
Believe in the sacredness of people not things.
Boldly trusting that it’s never too late.
To make LOVE great again,
And Abolish
Hate.

I saw a postcard in Athens that read, "Europe without Greece is like a child without a birth certificate," and that rings true, like the bells of the blue-domed churches of Santorini. Whether it was the ancient Agora, where the Ekklesia of the Demos - the Assembly of the People - met, or Epicurean and Stoic philosophers debating with Paul the Apostle, or an inscription in stone dedicated to "The Invisible God", Greece was and is awe-inspiring! The ancient world blends seamlessly with the new; ideologies are born and raised. Ancient art and modern fashion design clash wonderfully in quaint stores of cobblestoned Plaka. Theatre masks of the Cult of Dionysus are juxtaposed with icons of Jesus, Mary, saints, and apostles. Like the cuisine, you cannot tell where Europe begins and the Middle East ends. I feel inspired to paint a Santorini scene in Aegean blue hues. Greece is a rosary in turquoise and black volcanic rock beads. I twist the beads between my fingers and whisper prayers of gratitude to the "Invisible God". I remember Greece, and I remember who we are. 🌊🏛️🎨💙🙏

The Leap
"You came to me broken,
With the first fall of snow,
And I myself a sculpture in etched ice, behold.
Crystallized the scars beneath,
The hidden ache of old,
You came to me once again,
as seasons fresh unfold.
I held you warm in winter’s arms,
To melt the last of cold,
Revealing underneath the crack,
The budding bloom of spring,
And wild the rush of water flow,
A floral birth in sunlight’s glow,
The pasture brims with life anew,
I leap to love again."

"And sometimes I am not able to do more than keep my soul family suspended in energetic strands of love. And in that way, I remain a keeper, a space holder for my neighbours, my bothers and sisters. I send intentional thoughts when I am no longer able to support a brother or sister through action.
I can send out good vibrations. I can pray, unless the word feels uncomfortable, then by all means send out good vibes. And although these things may seem passive, or inactive, they are part of the action of surrendering that which we cannot change. We surrender to the unfathomable transformative force of Love. We allow Love’s alchemy to do the healing work. Surrender is at its core impossible without humility. Stripped of my ego, I begin to trust in Love’s transformative power, instead of my own. Stripped of my ego, but never powerless. There is power in walking away from pain.
Whether you are holding space, praying, sending vibes, stringing together affirmations, blessing someone, or simply thinking empathetically about someone. All these words are verbs. You are still actively being compassionate, even at a distance. Simply put, I can love with complete compassion and set boundaries.
Sometimes the only way to love someone is at a safe distance, and that may very well have to be enough. It is enough, because you are enough. Love is your birthright. Do not confuse unconditional compassion with self-harm. Love yourself so that you can love on and on and on … "

"When I envision myself as an old lady, I picture myself sitting on a beach in the lotus position (because I think I’ll do yoga for as long as my body allows it). I imagine slipping a string of wooden rosary beads through my fingers, stopping once in a while to reflect on a bead. Each bead a beautiful memory worth so much more than finite fortune. I’ll smile at each one so that crow’s feet and laugh lines spread like rays of joy across my face. Yes, I’m grateful for wrinkles, too. They tell my story. But in my story, there will not be a great becoming, a big mastering of one thing or another, a fabulous career to look back on. No, my life will be a collection of moments like beads on a rosary. I will have written stories, painted pictures, sung songs of joy and sorrow, travelled inside and out and, most important of all, I will have loved and been loved like it’s all that matters (and it is).
My life will not be one expensive diamond on a fragile chain, but a strong wooden string of beads, each bead a simple treasure I rub between my fingers as I sit there in the lotus position on a beach. I have no expectation of the kind of beach it should be, whether it’s a tranquil river beach or a tropical beach with roaring waves. And you wouldn’t know where the beginning or ending of my story is, because a circular string of beads does not have a particular destination. Only things with endings have a final destination. Eternal treasures cannot gather dust or wither away in time. Love endures.
So, here is the closest I’ll come to a New Year’s resolution. I’ll call it a transitional intention. I am resolute to live without expectation, to remove desire for what I do not have, to cherish and desire the present blessings in my life, to practice gratitude, to stop striving, and to love like there’s no tomorrow! I have no goal for this year, but I do look forward to surprises that surpass my most beautiful imaginings. Life is beautiful, as it is, as it will be, and as it ever was. May you go with your flow this year. Blessed be. "

I think I was searching for serenity in the storm, colour in darkness, and beauty when the world felt ugly. Despite the stormy ocean, I painted pink light behind the clouds. I was trying, I was painting, a moving meditation to give myself a momentary break. And as it turns out, in the process, I was healing.
This is the story of art, fueled by Spirit, and the way it saved me. It has been both my healing and a powerful preventative medicine. I apply art when I feel disconnected from Spirit. I apply art so as to be in-spired. The two go hand in hand. And when I am in Spirit, I am compelled to create, and when we create, we heal. It is no wonder Gabrielle Roth wrote: “In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions: ‘When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?’”
So, when you’ve come to end of your rope, when you are in a place where you cannot change your thoughts, just begin. Begin to create. Write a word, make one stitch, put one dancing foot, and one chord, after another. One, two, three brushstrokes later, and time has gone by. Time in which you were elevated from pain. What might have seemed frivolous, may very well be your saving grace. Paint that painting, sing that song. Sing it loud and sing it flat. Paint badly, but do it! Waste no time to “waste time.” For this so-called frivolity, and the superfluousness of art, is absolutely essential. After all, in essence, we are creations of Creativity itself.

"But to be loved for who you are is priceless. To be seen, understood, and dare I say, admired for the audacity to be yourself in a world that celebrates conformity, is far more valuable to me than being liked for something you’re not.
I no longer walk into a room, asking myself “will they like me?” I walk in wondering whether I’ll find another olive. If not, I’m never bored with my own company. I fill my world with books, art, nature, family, and of course those precious kindred spirits spread across the globe. And that’s enough. A handful of understanding is worth much more than buckets full of pretending. Nope, no more. I will be myself, and I am learning to stop apologizing for it.
I’m not weird, I just embrace the unknown. I love learning about worlds beyond my own. Unfamiliar cloth feels comfortable to me. I struggle with small talk, but I have a lot to say. And maybe one day, when you feel you don’t belong, look in my direction. I’d love to delve deep with you. I’m the kind friend who see past the moments when you’re not your best self, because I’ve been there too. I reflect on my behaviour, and because I’ve been far from perfect, I can love you as you are. Flawless love from a flawed soul. Truthfully, my only prerequisite for friendship is kindness. The thing is, I think everyone is weird. We are all unique, and that means not a single soul sees things exactly the same. Some people just hide their weirdness better than others. So, I guess an Olive is just a Raisin Girl, or a Cornflake Girl (person), who refused to conform. Go ahead Olive, question the status quo, and in the process, you may very well make the world a better place. And at the very least, you will give someone else permission to love themselves as they are.
Author Ross Caliguiri said: If you feel you don’t fit into the world you inherited it is because you were meant to create a new one.” So, I urge you dear Olives to wave your freaky flag, shine your unique light, be unapologetically you. For while you shine, you light the way for others." by Stella Corbett
