Europe trip 2026 ☀️

(I know this is A LOT to read so feel free to skip)

For the past month I’ve been in Europe exploring London, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, Marseille, Malta and Istanbul.

I wrote this after my last day solo travelling, it seems funny now as it felt like I’d been exploring alone for months. It was incredible.

During my first ever solo trip to Spain I laughed, danced, cried, stressed out big time and ate and drank like a sailor. While most of what you see online about solo travelling is all positive, partying it up with new friends and soaking in the views, it can be very different to this.

I was stripped of my confidence only to be rebuilt with a newfound assurance, that I’m capable of doing a lot of things, things that I would never have imagined of myself. I seem to have gone through some version of exposure therapy and lost some (not all! that would be magic) of my people pleasing tendencies and fear of making mistakes. While this might sound melodramatic, navigating new cities by myself, feeling awkward eating alone and afraid to ask for help where many people did not know English was extremely scary, stressful and uncomfortable, but I was forced into it. I couldn’t rely on someone else, I just had to do it.

“Just do it, just chill, it will be okay” I told myself.
My mind automatically assumed the worst of a situation and I lived in fear of this every day. By just saying yes and asking for help, talking to strangers and saying yes to a backpacker in my hostel to go meet other backpackers at a bar for a drink, led me to meet some of the coolest, loveliest people I’ve ever met, shared stories and experiences, only to leave them days later after making the best memories of my life.

The ups and downs are like no other. I cried randomly, a lot. I felt so lonely at times, I missed my dog and my bed and my own space and would feel guilty about needing to rest or have a doomscroll in my hostel bed. I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t make the most of it, but my brain was all ove by @stellarramage
