Tasmanian Blackwood, Japanese ceramic tile, Ebony inlay, Satin polyurethane.

Pretty decent workbench for a tight footprint.
Four taps deep too, enough to keep the hop stompers of High Street happy :-)
Anchoring the entire space front and centre is a masterpiece by @house___arrest ❤️

The colour palette at Jacket began with the original 1950's hex mosaic tiles on the footpath outside. Mustard and deep ochre reds became the base tones that shaped a warm, comforting atmosphere. Once the general vibe was established, we started experimenting with sharp pops of primary colour — moments of surprise and delight. Like an offbeat cymbal splash or a trumpet shriek.

Big thanks to our longtime collaborator and modern-day alchemist Allan Grimes @grimesandsons for the custom stain work across the timber and cork. You always manage to bring the music to our work.

Details were layered throughout the space like elements of a song. Tightly edited together, feeding off each other — solo here, verse there, bass and rhythm working as one.... all elements responding to one another like players in a band.

Thanks Sam @propercarpentry and Az @stellingcarpentry for executing everything we dreamt up with such care and precision. We have so much respect for your craft.

The brief arrived as a playlist from our jazz musician client — music was his way of describing the atmosphere he wanted to create.
We translated it into a space composed like a score: piano keys stretched across the floors, the timbre of old instruments embedded in the walls, syncopation in the detailing, and staccato moments that cut in and out. Moody, warm and intimate, with small moments of surprise — like hearing your favourite song for the first time all over again.

Jacket Bar’s official opening party is this Friday night. See you there.

The hero piece as always is the bar.
Working with the existing footprint from the building’s previous chapter, we gave it one hell of a glow up. Solid Tassie blackwood wraps the workbench, setting the tone while you get ready for one off the wood.

Best new bar in Australia, literally!

Huge congrats to Luke and Belinda and the @pendant.publicbar team for taking away this year’s Australian Bartenders Bar award.

Creating this space alongside Jack & Em @studioheck_ and my day 1 Az @stellingcarpentry was a real treat, it just flows when you’re all in the same head space. Doesn’t even feel like work!
