A special delivery back to Belgium 🇧🇪 .

We recently handed over this fully refurbished Stemme S6 to its new Belgian owner, with a great welcome and water salute on arrival at Antwerp Airport – EBAW.

Beyond its qualities as a high-performance touring motor glider, the S6 also represents an important part of Stemme’s engineering heritage.

Its architecture later served as the basis for the ASP15 special-mission platform, today operated primarily for observation and surveillance missions, with different combinations of pods, sensors and mission systems.

One airframe philosophy, very different missions, a good example of the versatility and efficiency that have always been part of Stemme’s DNA.

We are so proud to welcome Vivian, our fourth Founder’s Flight Scholarship recipient, into the Soar Hawaii Foundation ‘ohana. Vivian is now immersed in our comprehensive flight training program, which is designed to prepare our students to become safe aviators and future professional pilots.

In Hawai‘i, our abundant soaring conditions and nonprofit structure make glider training and flight time acquisition more affordable than anywhere on Earth, and those hours count toward career goals and the professional pilot certificates that follow. That is the gift of this scholarship: the recipient’s induction into our student program, a guided mentorship and training path when flight training is otherwise often out of reach.

This is why we started the Founder’s Flight Scholarship. To open doors for the next generation of aviators, astronauts, and engineers. If you know a keiki with a dream of flying, let Vivian’s story and those of our other scholarship recipients inspire them. We are about to change aviation education in the United States. With the most consistent soaring weather on Earth and an efficient 501(c)(3) aviation safety academy, we are building something of incredible value for future aviators, astronauts, mechanics, and engineers. Tourists come for a beautiful soaring flight, and that helps us subsidize local students TO MAKE THIS THE MOST AFFORDABLE FAA-APPROVED FLIGHT TRAINING IN THE UNITED STATES.

I call Oʻahu the optimal “Soaring Laboratory” on Earth: 330 to 350 soarable days a year, all 4 types of lift near our airfield, and sometimes wave up to 30,000 feet when the winds aloft align. This island is home to the world sailplane duration record of 71 hours and 5 minutes! The Sun powers our thermals and consistent tradewinds on the mountains beside our 9,000-foot runway. The abundant energy lets us build an AFFORDABLE academy that aims to become FULLY SUSTAINABLE.

Soaring here is almost mystical. ALL GLIDER HOURS COUNT TOWARD THE MAJORITY OF THE 1,500 HOURS REQUIRED FOR MANY PILOT JOBS. Energy management and reading the sky make safer aviators. Just ask Captains “Sully” Sullenberger, Pearson, and Piché.

Pacific Flight Academy offers a pathway to Horizon, Hawaiian, and Alaska. Our FAA-certified gliding instructors, including myself, volunteer to mentor the next generation.

Demand is here. What we need is the fleet. For years I have direct-deposited much of my income to save our sole Hawaiian gliderport and keep this academy alive. We need a boost - We applied for a $1M FAA grant and are seeking sponsors who can help us grow for the many students already in line.

Hundreds of gliders still sit unused across the USA. WE NEED TRAINING GLIDERS ASAP: 2-33s, 2-22s, Grob 103s, ASK-21s, L-23s, 1-26s, 1-23s, PW-5s, and Grob 102s. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.
