My mom died 2 weeks ago. Today is her birthday, she would have been 62.

One of my most favorite moments with mom was when she took me to the ballet in Chicago. Tucked in that memory was also us trying to navigate through the streets to the theater with printed Mapquest directions. There were a lot of laughs, and a few screams…and maybe a turn down a one way road.

So today, for her birthday, I’ve taken myself to the Nutcracker ballet in Denver, wearing her sparkliest shoes and softest cardigan that still smells like her. And I am going to wish with every ounce of me that she will be sitting next to me, watching on at the beauty that unfolds on stage.

I love you mom, Happy Birthday 🎈 🩰 taken in Ellie Caulkins Opera House by @steph.wierz
