Happy one year anniversary to Still Here ❤️

One year later, this show still means so much to us. We poured our hearts, our stories, and our culture into creating it, and we’re incredibly proud of what it became. Shout out to our whole team for coming together on this one. Sold out 6 shows in a row in New York.

To celebrate, we wanted to share the final scene from the animated film we wrote and directed for the show with the legendary @steph_gumpel @novella_film . A piece about where we come from, what we carry with us, and what we hope to pass on to the next generation.

One more farewell kiss to this amazing film 💋 Thank you @cartoonbrew for recognizing how special telling this story in the medium of animation was. Thank you to everyone involved. This was the most challenging and ambitious animation for @novella_film to date. It would not have been possible without the incredible artists involved. Every day, I looked forward to coming to work and climbing this mountain together. I feel both sad and grateful that we crossed the finish line and accomplished all our creative goals. All my love and admiration to the incredible crew of STILL HERE, the animated film.

How do you deliver 20 minutes of animation for a New York stage premiere on an indie budget?

Filmmaker Stephanie Gumpel’s Studio Novella teamed with Indigenous Enterprise on 'Still Here,' opening tomorrow at The Joyce Theater. The show blends powwow dance with rotoscoped and 2.5D animation created in Blender by a small team of artists.

Check out our feature on the animation component of the performance, along with some breathtaking BTS artwork. Link in bio.
