The other day I spilled a full coffee on my desk at work, and while my electronics were spared, most of my papers were not. My gratitude post-its were soaked from the bottom up and so I photographed them all to memorialize them before tossing them in the trash (it IS time to start over, in more ways than this). I started writing these lists of good things a few years ago at work when I was struggling deep in burnout and bad brain times, and continued to add to it here and there up until last month.

Last week I said see ya later to the School of Art after over 7 years. It is truly bittersweet, and I am grateful to all of the friends and artists I’ve gotten to meet and love while working there. I’m struggling to express everything I feel here (there’s the bitter and then there’s the sweet), but I really just want to say most of all, both to the people who make art and who help make the art happen, you have a fan for life.

One year ago today Luna slipped away from us. Turns out she had a weak heart, but she also had so much more: an attitude, an opinion, a love for plastic and water from the sink, two chaotic siblings, and a really, really loving and obsessed owner, @brynnsie. We miss her and though she still hangs out in the living room with us, House Couch™️ will never be complete without her (House Couch™️ is when everyone who lives in the house is on the couch, obviously). HBD to my common-law wife! (this is currently not a law in TN, so we’re still tragically unmarried women in their 30s). We’re such good friends we do a birthday post for each other every year, which is a level of commitment that has yet to be topped for me. She is kind, she always cooks extra soup, she basically has good taste in everything, and I know for a fact that almost everything she’s learned about Taylor Swift from me was against her will and she was really nice about it. She’s my brother—no questions please.

You may have thought I was not going to make a post for Brynn’s birthday but you would have been wrong! I’m just very late because life and procrastination (and who I am as a person—example below). We spent her bday relaxing on the couch and we even watched something Taylor Swift (like it was my birthday or something???) and ate pizza and ice cream cake (did y’all know ice cream is SO good?) The delay, however, did allow me to find some excellent photos and do some reflecting on 2023. We had fun!!! We went to concerts, went to Atlanta a lot, went white water rafting (this was not on my 2023 bingo card), and I think we saw a little more light coming through the Big Bad 2020 fog. Thanks for being the best brother I’ve ever had (and for going to the Eras Tour with me cause wow that was intense) ♥️ and I can’t wait to give you the rest of your presents when they arrive in the mail (this is the example.)

We lost my grandpa last week after a couple tough years of being in and out of the hospital, fighting and fighting. Glad that he is finally able to rest and that my Grammie was by his side the whole time to see him off. He was well-loved and a man who got things done, always eager to help those in his community (and often with an off color joke). I think I can forgive him for picking on me and my cousins all those years, but us uglies really miss you, GP. ♥️ taken in Richmond, Virginia by @stephaknees

I’m a day late on my birthday post, but I am hoping as a fellow holiday-birthday, @brynnsie will understand that sometimes you celebrate a little bit multiple days in a row, right? ANYWAY WHEW, this year was a lot, yes, and there were a lot of high highs (this post is not for the low lows) and traveling and dressing up and many drinks. Funnily enough, many of these good times involved some of our most favorite things: Pride festivals and @amandaclansdell! Thanks for bringing me in to your friend group, rewatching tv shows ad nauseam with me, and putting the cat food on auto-ship. Get in losers, it’s @brynnsie ‘s birthday.

I saw a post by Ester Perel the other day that talked about how we so deeply need close relationships because the way that other people love us and see us, helps us to love and see ourselves the same. The past couple shit years of being stuck in the house we weren’t alone (tho we both probably wished we were sometimes lol) and I am very grateful for that and for this roommates-turned-bffs relationship. Mentally, idk how I’m doing with 2022 on the horizon, but I am sure that we will laugh very hard, split the bills down the middle, and always have a fashion show whenever we order clothes online. Also it’s confusing how you always look like, really pretty?
