Look Four Épanouie

Épanouie is a French word meaning “to fully bloom” or “to flourish.”

As the final look of Beauty in the Disregarded, it marks the culmination of transformation. Where Dustmade explored beauty hidden within what was overlooked, Épanouie is that beauty fully realized expanded, untamed, and unapologetically taking up space.

The mini dress is hand studded with thousands of discarded metal studs collected throughout New York. Each was individually scratched by hand, preserving its marks and history rather than restoring it to perfection. Together, they shimmer as a celebration of imperfection.

Beneath the silhouette, a reimagined pannier extends the garment outward through the hips, anchored by a distressed belt and hand scratched buckle. Cascading from the structure are strips of deadstock organza, mesh, and reclaimed textiles, left with their raw edges exposed. Once disregarded, these materials are given new life through movement, texture, and form.

Guided by the principles of Wabi Sabi, Épanouie embraces what is worn, unfinished, and imperfect. A final bloom formed from fragments, history, and the overlooked. Model: @gracegavinnn_

Look Three: Gilded Relic

Gilded Relic finds beauty in what has been overlooked. At its centre is a sculptural ceramic breastplate formed from impressions of discarded objects, preserving the traces of materials once forgotten.

Finished with a clear glaze, the ceramic embraces every crack, mark, and firing variation, allowing its imperfections to become part of the story. The trousers are crafted from burned waxed muslin, revealing a shimmering underlayer made entirely from donated scrap textiles.

Within Beauty in the Disregarded, Gilded Relic transforms discarded materials into something precious, proving that beauty can be found in what others leave behind.

Look Two: Salt Siren

Inspired by the mythology of sirens and the fragile reality of our oceans, this look transforms forgotten materials into something ethereal and alive.

Constructed from rust dyed silk and oxidized copper treatments, the look draws from the beauty hidden within abandoned shipwrecks, lost treasures, weathered metals, and forgotten objects resting beneath the sea. Layers of oxidation, rust, and time become part of the garment’s story. A draped top wraps across the body and ties into a scarf neckline, while the asymmetrical wrap skirt falls away like fragments carried by ocean currents.

The surface is finished with a tidal sheen, creating the illusion of a garment emerging directly from the water. Oxidized greens, copper patinas, and rusted tones mirror the colors found on submerged wreckage, where nature slowly transforms what has been discarded into something unexpectedly beautiful.

Within Beauty and the Disregarded, this siren is not adorned with pearls or precious gems. Instead, she is shaped by the remnants of the sea forgotten shipwrecks, oxidized metals, and objects left behind. Like the ocean itself, she reveals that beauty can be found in places often overlooked, proving that even the most neglected materials can be reborn into something extraordinary.

Look One: Dustmade.

This look symbolizes the very start of rebuilding beauty rising from ashes and dust. It’s the beginning of transformation: fragmented yet striving for something beautiful.

The bra top is distressed, studded, and tea dyed with oxidized tones, reflecting something once discarded. The rust-dyed chiffon strips drape, unraveling around the body. The pants, also tea dyed, are crafted from twisted mesh fibers fragile yet forming.

Dustmade is that first step pieced from what was forgotten, starting to assemble itself into something whole, beautiful, and new.
