Another one found on @ebaysneakers ! I designed this in 1996 and it was launched Fall 1997. The first Trail Running shoe from New Balance. It was called the 800AT (“AT” for All Terrain). Building the archives one at a time. Curious if @s_j_pearce or @newbalance365 has a pair?

At 23 years old, some insightful person told me that when I’m older I’ll wish that I had preserved this Boston Globe article. I recently went looking for it (stored in my parents’ basement). Grateful for that advice. 💡 by @stephanie.endstate

Growing up, I was told that girls could do anything boys could do. 
What I didn’t know was that the built world was not designed for women. In fact, in many ways it is unsafe and inhospitable, which half the population inevitably learns.

Karen Korellis Reuther’s book, MAN-MADE, documents so much of my lived experience as a woman and a designer.

Women represent over half the global population, yet have been forced to accept the discomforts and dangers of a world not built for them. An average standard fits no one. We are different, and it is time that the insights of those differences inform better safer solutions.

A few years ago, Digital Product Passports were a footnote in EU policy docs.
Now they’re a main-stage panel at TexWorld NYC.

That shift tells you something: the textile industry isn’t asking if every product will carry its own digital identity, it’s asking how, and who’s ready.

We’ll be digging into exactly that on “From Origin to End-of-Life: How Digital Product Passports Are Reshaping the Textile Value Chain and the Product.”

@noahkahanmusic did more than fill Fenway Park with music this week. He filled it with connection. Thousands of strangers sang as one, and somewhere between the lyrics and the chorus, Fenway became more than a ballpark. It became a community.

30 years.
Thirty years ago, I was staring life in the face and hoping to get one more chance at it. 
Three decades more of chances. I am so very grateful for every one. 
The brilliant Dr. Joel Scheinfeld and his team at @memorialsloankettering Cancer Center removed a tumor from my bladder that was initially thought to be cancerous. The final pathology was benign, and after the most cathartic news I will ever receive, “normal” life began again.
 Each of the next three decades has taught me:
* “Normal” is not something to take for granted.
* You’re never dealt a hand you can’t play.
* Everyone is a 1 of 1. Never compare yourself. Never assume you know someone’s story.
* Relationships, nature, and making change spark joy.
* Control is mostly an illusion. Presence is not. 
Still working on how to stop being a perfectionist and overthinking everything. 
Whether I’m driving, or just gripping the wheel pretending I have control, I may never know.
Either way, I’m here. And I’m so very lucky to be. by @stephanie.endstate

I had the great fortune of a private tour of the @vignellicenter at The Rochester Institute of Technology by @joshowendesign (Josh Owen), director of the center and award winning, internationally renowned industrial designer, author, and educator. Archiving Massimo and Lella Vignelli’s masterpieces is vital to reminding each new generation that the search for meaning is the starting point of design (and essentially most other pursuits!).

Design surrounds you. What you wear, your furniture, housewares, climate systems, the medical instruments your doctors use, and so much more. I’m lucky to have a career in industrial design where I’ve made friends with so many talented people who consider every function and detail to help make our lives better so we can focus on the joy of living.
