Emilia Romagna & Veneto.

We walked the porticoes of Bologna, ate the silkiest mortadella, drank beers on the train, Dave finally discover a spritz he likes (the Hugo), didn’t take nearly enough photos, found the local spots and did some touristy things too, drank Lambrusco and Soave and Valpolicella, walked a fuck ton, marveled at the logistics of Venice, enjoyed Parm Regg of all ages, browsed antique stores, saw art and beauty everywhere we looked, got reminded over and over of memories from working at Nicolas, and felt so genuinely welcomed by the Italians everywhere we went. by @stephanielwebster

Findlay Market Fam.

Wallace’s stops:
- @eckerlinmeats burger, only ketchup and pickles
- visit with the lobsters at @barlionsmarket
- say hi to @therhined team and a glass of bubbles for mom
- crush burger at @bloomroomotr

And with some teamwork, we actually get some grocery shopping done. taken in Findlay Market by @stephanielwebster

What a trip to see your sibling love on your kid. Also, what a trip to see so much of your sister in your kid.

Yo- lots of news and posts about which Kroger is out of this and which one has that and how long the lines are. Findlay Market was quiet today, vendors stocked with everything - produce, milk, bread, meat, cheese & wine (😉), all the things! No lines, I bought a few groceries this afternoon. Pleasant, happy people, a little small talk with fellow customers and vendors, snacks! Panic buy at @findlaymarket. The Lord Above knows all of these small businesses could use a little bump in January, especially when they’re about to lose a weekend of sales. And it’s not just a good deed, the quality is better, the experience is better. I don’t know why anyone would choose any alternative. Your dollars won’t go to the 1%, they’ll stay right here in your community, strengthening it. At anyone’s shop down here, you’re not part of an algorithm or data or whatever, we see you and notice you and are grateful for you.

But I also am so curious why everyone’s brain goes to panic buying at Kroger and the Market isn’t on their radar. Is it the perception of parking? (Parking is easy, park at Findlay Garage!) Is it multiple transactions? Is it that it doesn’t feel “fast” enough? What is it? I genuinely am so curious so I can get to work on changing people’s minds! I don’t want this to come off as desperation, it’s not that, I just think you could be having a better experience with better goods and you’re missing out and I don’t want that for you!

P.S: this was the most recent photo of the Market I have. The pink garbage truck was out front on a Monday and I quickly snapped a photo for Wallace because his fave color is pink and and he loves garbage. 💗 taken in Findlay Market by @stephanielwebster

2016.

My hair was only a little gray.

@cheesebarpdx let me come work at his cheese shop in Portland for a month and I’ll forever be grateful.

It felt wild to be able to buy a preroll there. The weed buying experience in Portland was 💯 - it was welcoming, you could take pics, and you could buy plants - take notes Ohio.

We walked our business plan into US Bank thinking we’d get an SBA loan. Nope, but huge thank you Michael at US Bank for pointing us toward the @otrchamber grant (we got it!) and city funding. Then we emptied our savings and took out a second mortgage and went all in.

We went to every cheese expo/mercantile/show we could and I was so proud to wear that little name tag that said “The Rhined.”

Buildout began on 1735 Elm Street. @kimstarbuck had a passion and a vision for that building and she made it happen. And she made my dreams come true.

@findlaymarket invited us to do a tasting at their Fall Food Fest. I was so nervous - it was my first time leading a tasting! Folks were slow to join and @kellyalanser called in her sister to fill in the crowd. I think people must have eventually showed up - there are more people than I remember, Kelly! Findlay was (and still is) my absolute favorite place in the city and being asked to do this tasting was so meaningful to me. Hard to believe 10 years later, I got to host a room full of potential Findlay donors and tell them how much the Market means to me, how much support they’ve given, how they always believed in this little cheese shop. 🍅❤️

There was so much popping up @rhinegeist. Nearly every Sunday we would cut cheese at @findlaykitchen and haul it down to Rhinegeist and make eye contact with as many people as we could so they would feel obligated to come buy a cheese flight from us. The Pop-Up life is hard, don’t know how people do it. So much packing and unpacking and packing and unpacking again. BUT we still have folks who remember those little pop-ups. AND I met @sssarah____t doing those pop-ups and we’ve watched each other grow as business owners since!

We were well into our training session when Dave caught this on camera. In my stories but I thought maybe it needed to be on the grid. Life is so so so busy right now but grateful we’re all in it together. @therhined taken in Findlay Market by @stephanielwebster

We said goodbye to our sweet Phil yesterday. The gentlest guy and the best big brother, we’ll miss him forever.

We picked him up from @cincyanimalcare with every intention of fostering. He’d been dumped in Mt. Airy Forest, emaciated and covered in sores and open wounds. But he had the kindest eyes, and we fell in love quickly.

Phil recovered, and we shared so many adventures, snuggles, and snacks.

When Wallace arrived, Phil kept us company through the sleepless nights, occasionally howling along with the newborn cries. As Wallace grew, Phil became a patient, loving playmate who calmly tolerated endless rounds of toddler “doctor.”

The pain of losing a beloved pet cuts deep, but we feel so lucky to have had five beautiful years with this sweet soul. by @stephanielwebster
