I want to share my own experience, because for a very long time, dance was the first thing I thought about when I woke up and the last thing I thought about before I slept. It became more than just something I loved, it became tied to my worth. No matter how much effort I gave, it felt invisible. I was constantly overthinking every class, every interaction, every little thing I did wrong, and I started walking into the studio already feeling defeated before class had even started. Somewhere along the way, I stopped dancing because it made me happy, and started dancing because I wanted to prove myself and was constantly chasing unreachable validation.

Eventually, I started noticing how I was holding back before I even tried, and always second-guessing myself. I tried to start letting go of that pressure in small ways, trying to stay present instead of getting stuck in my head. I started showing up more as myself again. And for the first time in a long time, I remembered why I fell in love with dance in the first place. 💜

a little red ♥️

loved shooting in Chinatown! It was a little hectic with so many people around, but such a good learning experience. @rokop_dance_fashion I love how the photos turned out. It also meant a lot to shoot somewhere that connects to my ethnicity and culture.

i thought if someone chose me, the noise in my head would finally quiet down. it’s a bittersweet realization to want love so badly, but finally admit to yourself that it won’t automatically fix what’s hurting inside.
