Organ Practice

The actual colors of this church were quite lovely, but there's something to stripping out the hues and leaving the essentials in black and white. We ducked into this small Mürren church in the afternoon, and listened to the organist as she practiced for the Sunday service.

Helene Remembered, Two Years Later

This shot is a bit different from my normal fare, but thinking about two years ago, this tunnel and bridge remind me of Helene.

After the rains slowed and the storm passed, we went out to see what happened and survey the damage. Trees down. Lines down. Bridges out. And then, disbelief.

From this bridge, which from this vantage point leads to downtown Asheville and was still standing, we walked out into this tunnel, looked down, and saw a solid twenty-foot-plus brown rise of the French Broad River consuming whatever was in its path.

It's about two and a half football fields down this tunnel to the other side. Restaurants gone. Debris floating by. Annihilation.

Two years on, we still feel the damage. And yet, so much has been and is being rebuilt. Grateful for resilience.
