For @Reuters, Liran Berman, brother of Israeli twins Gali and Ziv Berman, speaks as former hostage Noa Argamani listens during a gathering of hostage families in Washington, D.C., on January 19, 2025, on the eve of President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

Gali and Ziv Berman, 26-year-old twin brothers from Kibbutz Kfar Aza, were abducted on October 7 and taken to Gaza. They were not soldiers or combatants. They were civilians who worked for a local lighting-and-sound company.

On October 7, 2023, they were at their homes in Kfar Aza when Hamas-led attackers overran the kibbutz. Their mother said Gali told her that he and Ziv were going next door so their friend Emily Damari would not be alone. All three of them were subsequently abducted from the kibbutz and taken to Gaza.

Their older brother Liran became one of the most prominent family advocates for their release, repeatedly traveling to Washington and meeting with U.S. officials to press for their return.

At the gathering, Liran urged President Trump to ensure that the newly negotiated ceasefire and hostage-release agreement was carried out in full, saying his brothers were “running out of time.”

Argamani, who had been released from captivity in June 2024, was in Washington alongside the families of those still held in Gaza. She spoke about her own experience in captivity and called for the remaining hostages, including her partner Avinatan Or, to be brought home.

Nine months later, on October 13, 2025, after 738 days in Gaza, Avinatan Or, and Gali and Ziv Berman were released and reunited with their families.

For @Reuters, Orna Neutra, mother of American-Israeli hostage Omer Neutra, hugs a woman as her son Daniel looks on during a gathering of hostage families in Washington, D.C., on January 19, 2025, on the eve of President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

Omer, 21, was a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen from Plainview, New York, and a tank commander in the Israel Defense Forces. He was taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, 2023, after his unit came under attack near the Gaza border. For more than a year, his family campaigned publicly for his release, believing he was still alive and being held in taken in Washington, DC by @stephanispindel

Published in the @nytimes and @washingtonpost: my images of a United Nations Security Council meeting on the recent escalations between Israel and Lebanon. Warning: slide 6 shows a graphic image of the results of Israel’s covert intelligence beeper operation.

The same day I also photographed a press conference with Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, a press conference with the Ambassador of Israel to the UN, and the King of Jordan & the UN Secretary General shaking hands.
