Last week, we said goodbye to our best boy

@mikeharmeson gave in 15 years ago after I begged for a puppy for months. Turbo got to be there for everything-our engagement, our wedding, he gave me something to do when my body didn’t cooperate and couldn’t have babies. He laid in bed with me when I was so sick during pregnancies and was gentle with the kids when we brought them home. He loved to lay in their rooms while we did our bedtime routines. He loved a snack and could always find the best sun spot.

We all will and already do miss him so much but as MJ reminded us he’s probably already bellied up to the doggie buffet in the great beyond 🐾 we’ll miss you little baked baguette ❤️ by @stepharmz

I ran a 5.5 pace this week — and that wasn’t the hardest part.

It was my fastest run since my stroke. I hadn’t run over 3.5 for 14 months.

It also meant navigating a packed college basketball game to watch my son perform — something that would have been too overwhelming a year ago.

Recovery isn’t just about what the body can do again.
It’s about what the nervous system can tolerate.
It’s about trust returning.

This week reminded me that capacity is coming back — in more ways than one.

Week 4

This week included a few runs and some strength — and the return of work stress, full schedules, and regular life.

Back to work after the new year. Meal prepping to get us back on track. Doing the best I can with the energy I have.

Recovery isn’t about choosing between discipline and grace.
It’s about learning how to hold both at the same time.

Between Christmas and New Year’s, there were no runs.

There was a movie with my family. A reset for the year ahead. Dinner with a friend. And a house full of people as we celebrated the new year together.

After my stroke, I’ve learned that healing isn’t only about getting back to what I used to do — it’s about recognizing what fills me now.

Some weeks are quiet.
Some weeks are full.
Both are part of recovery.
