Hi! It’s good to see ya

If you’re here, you’re probably looking for a therapist or some occasional mental health insights, so let’s get right into it!

My name is Stephanie Creer, and I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW), currently under supervision by Julio Lagos, LCSW.

My philosophy of care honors your innate wisdom by connecting mind and body to cultivate self-trust, resolve inner conflicts, and build resilience. I believe in nurturing a place where your voice is heard and your experiences and feelings are met with genuine curiosity, compassion, and acceptance.

My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and LGBTQ+ affirming. I recognize how relational, societal, and cultural structures affect individual experiences and well-being. Creating a safe, attuned space where you can reflect on experiences, examine core beliefs, and develop a secure sense of self is my priority as you navigate your life’s narrative and personal growth.

When not in session, I’m probably at the beach with my dog, making music and going to concerts, writing and reading, rock climbing, or drinking a Dr. Pepper (this might happen in session, too). Feel free to stick around a while.

Welcome welcome!

Relational wounds require relational healing, so social media can never be a full replacement for therapy. AND accessing therapy is a privilege, so social media can be a place for education and validation, either between sessions or between therapists. I’m happy you’re here :)

When I first became a therapist, I soon realized there was learning how to (1) provide therapy, and (2) be a therapist.

Providing therapy includes taking the trainings, utilizing modalities, gaining certifications, continuing education; being a therapist entails learning how to be a daily witness to what my supervisor called the “underbelly” of the world—the trauma, uncertainty, desperation, fear, illness, pain; also to the joy, gratitude, relief, excitement, growth, compassion. Often all within the same session.

As a new therapist, I had started writing haikus at the end of the day as a way to compress and process all my observations and feelings as a human who is also a therapist. Here’s the first I’d written, with more to share along the way 🌀

Our window of tolerance is the area where our nervous systems feel steady enough to handle emotions, stress, and daily life. To clarify, this doesn’t mean you’re feeling stellar all the time—you can feel anger or grief and still be in your window of tolerance. This zone is just where you can (you guessed it) tolerate it.

When you’re inside the window, you can think clearly, feel connected, and respond instead of react. When you’re outside the window, you may feel overwhelmed, panicky, angry; or you may feel shut down, numb, or disconnected.

A key to better understanding our own window of tolerance is to practice curious observation: checking in with your body (How am I feeling right now? How did I sleep last night? When was the last time I ate?), and responding intentionally. The great news is our window of tolerance can grow the more we practice grounding and regulating techniques.

Therapy can feel weird. It’s a relationship where the other person knows so much about you, and you know little to none about them. In that way, that’s what makes it a kinda cool and unique opportunity. You have absolute permission to make it about you, which might be a new feeling. Here are three reminders as you are starting or continuing your therapy.
