Malaysia, barely a decade into its independence, faced its gravest challenge with the May 13th, 1969 racial riots. This traumatic event exposed deep fissures within the nascent nation’s social fabric, threatening its very existence. In the wake of this crisis, a towering figure emerged to steer the country towards healing and unity: Tun Abdul Razak Hussein. His leadership was instrumental in not only restoring order but also in laying down a fundamental philosophical framework for national cohesion – the Rukun Negara. This set of national principles sought to create a shared identity and foster harmony among Malaysia’s diverse populace, becoming a cornerstone of the nation’s future.
