As insecurity continues to stretch into even the most remote corners of the country, small communities are left to find their own ways to survive.
Residents have turned to the VGN initiative—keeping watch through the night, guarding entrances and vulnerable paths, taking shifts so others can sleep.

Storytelling for me is paying attention to the very little day to day life , capturing life as it goes by!

The Pregnant King

A stage play by the 200 level theater art students of @federal_university_lokoja , Kogi state. The play centers around Endbadgovernance peaceful protest ongoing in some part of Nigeria currently, as I sat down to watch, each scene unfolds the current situation of the peaceful protests that turned out not to be anymore in some part of the country, how bad and unaccountable the government has been towards her people….. i couldn’t have done more but at least I have contributed in lending my voice to End bad governance through this medium!

FROM ARCHIVE

A traditional rural in the southeast region of Nigeria.

I was on an assignment on “ Ecological funds and corruption in Nigeria and its effect “ in February 2020.

Learnt so much on this project as it was a start to understanding how storytelling can throw more light to global economic issues.

Write a caption... BACK TO SCHOOL

Achieving quality primary education in Nigeria, particularly for geographically marginalized areas remains one of the major setbacks of the recently phased out MDGs with its second goal dedicated to effort to achieve universal primary education. Tasked with a 15 year achievement plan, yet a few was accomplished with the game of numbers.
However, before we set out on the journey of another 15 years of the SDGs whose goal number four is targeted at achieving equitable, inclusive quality education and life-long learning opportunities for all by 2030, we must critically evaluate the shortcomings of the previous agenda. The reasons why the problem of lack of access to quality education is still ongoing in Rural Nigeria can be traced back rooted in the lines of history.

As part of solving this problem with the power of documentary and storytelling, the children in Agala Até of Ayingba, Kogi state who were out of school some months ago are back to the classroom….Ojonoka comprehensive school has been helping children in this rural area, the school owned by a missionary who through empathy subsidize the school fee so that a whole lot of these Children can stay in school ….( full story on the previous posts ). This is little we can do at this level, we hope the school get proper and basic attention to keep these kids in school.

Special thanks to @girlsandgoalsinitiative @nugwa_id for partnering and everyone who sent money to support this project 🙏🏻

Pt 2

Ojonoka comprehensive Nursery and primary school Agala Atè, Ayingba caught my attention some weeks ago when a friend made a post on IG how she was able to support by paying some children’s fee so they can go back to school, I decided to use the power of “storytelling” in my little ways to help support also, at least give basic assistance.

Education has been playing a vital role in ensuring social change and impact for years even though it has it’s own challenges, giving the children in Ojonoka Comprehensive Nursery and Primary School a lift will go a long way as a community project. I intend to support in some areas like getting some kids back to school, support the owner of the school ( Reverend John and his family ) and providing teaching aids to help the children learn faster.

This is a call to join me in your little ways or means to give back to the society, we know how important basic education is at grassroots, this is not a permanent solution but I can assure you this will go a long way.

Let me know what you think in the comment session.

Never been to school.

Looking at these faces comes with desires and hopes to help make their situation better rather than just ignoring them. Your support will really go a long way

The school fee is 3,500 ( Three thousand Five hundred naira ) for a term and we have 3 terms for a session.
The comment session and my DM is widely open for more information.

Reverend John Omayiwa
Part 1.

“ In 1994, I was called by the Lord to start up a ministry in Ayingba, Kogi state, I was working in Kaduna as at that time when I heard the voice saying I should go and work for Him.

Because Ayingba is the center of “ Igala kingdom” I went there hoping is the place I will start the ministry but the voice came again to start here in “ Agala atè” which was a remote area where there were no infrastructures. I went on a retreat for 7days in a secluded place to be sure about my call, then I had my first crusade on 8th - 12th October 1994 with just a soul won for the Lord, I began to teach and guild the person and his family as they became my first church members.
The voice spoke to me again to establish a Nursery and Primary School as a way to get new members as well as support the community , so I started the school in 1995 with a fee of 50kobo, then I increased it to 70kobo another time I increased it to 1 Naira still so that the children can get a good education as at that time.

There has been a lot of changes in the society up until now when we finally put a fee at #3,500 ( Three thousand five hundred naira ) and still some children are not here because they couldn’t afford it , they were days I will go into their houses and forcefully drag some of them to school, while I hold some on their hands, I will put some on my shoulders and bring them to school but the fee has always been a major problem.

I have 3 children who went through the same primary school in fact, I taught them till they all began to work with me as teachers in the school including my wife, they all have been my support system till date because the fee can not pay for more or professional teachers and this is a major problem also in the Learning process of the school ”

The presidential election took place on the 25th February 2023 and 26th also for places where they couldn’t conduct the voting exercises.

Today, 27th February 2023 i decided to tell my stories from a perspective of “ WHAT NEXT” results are being compiled at the moment, “pressure tí wà” meaning there is pressure everywhere.

WHAT EXACTLY WILL HAPPEN NEXT?

Might probably come across some of these guys when you visit the Northern Nigeria frequently…. Well, I didn’t miss out on either the shot or the tea also, you should probably try the tea when you have the opportunity to do that.
