With all the talk this week about support acts, promoters and who gets to stay on a bill, this 1994 Green Day story suddenly feels very current 👀👀

Back at the height of Dookie mania, Green Day took queer punk band Pansy Division out on tour with them.

Then a promoter tried to pull Pansy Division from one of the shows.

Green Day’s response?

If they don’t play, neither do we.

Thirty-two years later, it’s a pretty striking little story to revisit.

Six albums from one year, and that’s before you start shouting at me about everything I’ve left out.

You can only keep three.

And more importantly, what 2001 album am I getting grief for missing?

This is one of those Green Day songs that feels like it’s just always been there.

Funny thing is, they weren’t even sure it belonged.

Billie Joe had written Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) years before Nimrod, but it was slower, acoustic and basically nothing like what Green Day were doing at the time. So it sat there.

Eventually they gave it a go.

Good decision, really.

The song that didn’t sound enough like Green Day became one of the most Green Day songs imaginable.

Anyone else instantly transported somewhere by this one?

Going back to Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water now, you realise there was a seriously good band underneath all the madness.

🎃 Spooky Season has officially arrived… 👻

@pumpkinsafterdark_ireland is back @newbridgehouse for 2026 and honestly, it looks absolutely spectacular once the sun goes down.

Thousands of carved pumpkins, huge illuminated displays, live pumpkin carving and enough Halloween atmosphere to put you firmly into spooky-season mode. 👻

And the good news if you’re bringing younger kids, there are plenty of spooky surprises, but no jump scares. Which was also reassuring for me, just saying 😱

It’s running throughout October at Newbridge House, Donabate.

An absolute treat. Thankfully, no tricks. 🎃 AD.
