Introducing our returning teacher for this month’s QI, Lorenzo!:

Researcher, doctor, game master and full time daydreamer, Lorenzo has more passions than hours in the day to follow them.
He has somehow managed to find time for improv for the last 10 years, performing across different countries, languages and styles.
Firm believer in the power of improv to overcome shame and be a way to live a free and queer life. He also will usually always commit to what he’s doing in improv, which can result in fun and chaotic scenes, and he’ll also do amazing emotional scenes too.

We’re excited to have him teach!

This month’s QI will be on 12th October at Hoopla Impro. It starts at 7PM if you want to take part in the workshop or 8PM if you’d prefer to watch without going to the workshop. (Link in bio for tickets). The workshop is for queer improvisors only but the show is open for anyone to watch.

Art is pain. Pain is art. Two self-absorbed artists take on the challenge of a lifetime: to create music with feeling—while feeling the real pain of electrocution. The “definitely not masochistic” duo take their audience on a darkly farcical journey that will never be forgotten—and that they may never recover from.

This month’s QI will be hosted by Stephen Davidson. He’s done a lot for the queer improvising community: having started QI and having quite literally written the book (well a book) on improvising different genders. (He’s also a great teacher)

As improvisers, we have a responsibility to challenge injustice and not allow our stages to normalise oppression through silence. As the genocide in Palestine continues alongside settler-colonialism, apartheid, and military occupation, neutrality is not an option.

(Our theatre/festival/I) has signed the GRIP statement, joining improv theatres, festivals, artists, professionals, and students around the world committed to these principles. We/I encourage you to do the same.

We always talk about how confusing signs can be, sometimes though it’s extremely obvious. Pride is a protest, but it’s also the uniqueness of all queer people, be it those who show their love through unique ways, those who don’t have any need for romantic love, those who know their gender identity, those who don’t know their gender identity and so much more.

Ian James and James Manningmore present Gossip Queens. Trashy audience gossip becomes improvised mayhem in their hands.

No story is too petty to be explored and brought to life on stage… we can’t get enough! Camp, playful and completely unscripted.

I went to the Manila Improv Festival in March and it was a truly excellent time!
