Drop-In Group Singing- Sunday 13th September - 5pm

We welcome the very talented Stephanie-Jane Lewendon-Lowe (Waitress Associate MD) to Musically Direct our second Drop-in Group Singing class. Not only is @stephiej__ an incredible pianist, accompanist, teacher, coach, and musical director, StephieJ is effervescent and a tonne of fun! We are so excited to have you!

Drop-in Group Singing is a monthly drop-in class for singers of all levels of experience wanting to strengthen harmony, musicianship, and listening skills in an ensemble setting.

Each session explores large ensemble music theatre repertoire while developing ensemble awareness in a collaborative rehearsal environment. This is not a singing technique class.

You will learn a new ensemble song contrasting from the style the month prior. There is no performance outcome, just an opportunity to practice group singing.

Singers 16 years & over welcome at all stages of development.

Ideal for performers wanting to:
Improve harmony singing
Strengthen musicianship
Explore varied styles
Work with a different musical director each session
Have a good ol’ group sing!

☕️ Cover Calls 🥧 💝
A little video series to wrap up our slice of heaven, but most importantly to celebrate some of the delicious covers and swings.

Apart from playing the show every night, my favourite part of the job was cover calls. Getting to watch the cast play and discover their version of each character was a highlight every week.

Here is Stephanie. One of our off-stage super swings who covered all 4 female ensemble tracks. The ensemble vocals in Waitress are intricate and often very close, interweaving harmonies. A large portion of the show is each ensemble member on their own vocal line, leaving no room to guess! Stephanie swung on for 17 of 92 shows, covering 3/4 female ensemble tracks, plus our on-stage male track, “Henry”.

Fun fact: Two hours before a show, Stephanie learnt the tenor 1 vocal line (“Purse” track), and performed it that night whilst on a split track!! Just proof of what an incredible asset she is to any show. Swings truely keep our shows going on!!

We decided to pick a song that was cut from Waitress. But you may recognise snippets which are sung by Jenna in act 2. And who better than to feature Emily, whose ensemble track included the “ghost mother”.

☕️ Cover Calls 🥧 💝

Here is Emily. Our Jenna 2nd cover in Naarm/Melb who we never got to see. She was going to be our 1st cover Jenna in Gadigal/Sydney. Emily tech’ed in as Jenna only a few days before we found out that our show wasn’t continuing on. She’s an incredible performer, but she’s a pretty special human.

Fun fact: Emily was the first cast member I would see at the piano each night, appearing over my music stand as she waited to enter stage left into “Opening Up.”

Sugar, butter, flour…

Clocking in to the diner! Finally my BMus and Cert IV in Retail Management will be useful in tandem!! Pictures of some moments over the last couple of months… I promise my summer holidays wasn’t all puzzles and nature walks!!

What a Journey to the Past! Just had the best 3 weeks depping on Anastasia in My Perthsburg- the perfect entree to 2026!! 💜👑

334 patches (194 in Act 1, 140 in Act 2),
10 musicians in the pit,
7 plays,
4 stunning Anthony conducts (and off book- SO COOL!),
3 glorious Loclan conducts,
1 pair of stockings on their last leg,
Endless supply of exquisite music that I’ll never be sick of!

Thank you so much Anthony for having me, Loclan (a wonderful deskie- it’s like we’ve done this before!) and Kath (play a show with Kath ticked off my bucket list!).

2025, the year I finally finished my undergraduate degree.

I first started uni not long after I turned 17 because that’s what you did after finishing high school! But I dropped out just before I turned 18. I stopped and started numerous times, chopped and changed degrees (between music and music education), and along the way moved to the other side of Australia. I swapped to an online degree while I was working full time and continued to stop and start, chop and change between degrees. But now it’s done!! It took 18 years, an ADHD diagnosis and an army of friends and family who have been the best support, and sources of knowledge and advice. I am eternally grateful to those people - you know who you are. I started out as a classical violinist and finished with my final performance of 4 hand, piano duets with @isaacmouskovias .

Highlights include:
•two 100% assignments; one on the history of Motown and the other a case study of an active musician, @clim3278 (which I would argue is his highest accolade to date),
• screen composition and sound design unit with my bestie @timothy.mf ,
• two geology units (one on dinosaurs!), and
•submitting my final ever assignment with my mumlette and a celebratory glass of bubbles.

You may now refer to me at Stephanie-Jane Lewendon-Lowe (ADHD) B.Mus. I will be taking a much needed break from uni study for a while!
