Dividing time between Manila and South Africa, @PhiluxHome president @StephKienleGonzalez has embraced a slower pace of life with her husband and their three children, settling into a restored 1920s arts and crafts home built around sustainability. From managing Philux remotely to walking under Table Mountain, Gonzalez finds balance in a life more grounded in nature and family.

From the days I’d pore over my mother’s Architectural Digest to building a design journey rooted in conscious craft and storytelling — this moment feels beautifully full circle.

Honored to share my latest personal project in @archdigest, with gratitude to @amyastley, @alevasseur1 & @zoesessums.

My appreciation goes out to the collaborators who brought this vision to life:
Architecture & Design— @newman_architecture_design
Landscape Architecture— @watsonpellacini
Lighting Design— @onetoonebymartindoller
My @philuxhome team
My constant sounding board — @jesskienle
And Chris — my partner in everything.

A reflection on my first home.

The islands are breathtaking. The sunsets burn. The water holds magnificent marine life. None of it is why I return.

I return for the people — a warmth and humility I have found nowhere else 🤍

It had been too long. One weekend back, and the city welcomed us exactly as I remembered: bustling, cosmopolitan, its raw corners still holding their ground beneath the iconic skyline. Two nights at Huguenot Farm — an hour out, a world slower. A special dinner for our wedding anniversary, tennis before breakfast, a linocut workshop, sunset on the lawn while Chris ran the braai.

I have tracked gorillas before. Never with my parents. My sense of adventure comes from my father. My sense of family, from my mother. On this mountain I had both.

I’ve always believed the spaces around us quietly shape the way we think, feel, and grow. The making of my dream office has become deeply personal to me — a light-filled space grounded in nature, intention, and feminine energy, designed to nurture both creativity and drive every day. ✨ by @stephkienlegonzalez
