I did a thing… and it’s taken me a few days to wrap my head around how to share it. But here we are.

Last Monday in Melbourne, I became an Australian citizen; alongside my kids (already citizens) and a group of incredible immigrants, all bonded by our love for this country and the opportunities it offers, personally, professionally, and spiritually.

We started the day with a crazy-early flight, spent the morning at the Australian Open (one of the greatest fan experiences in sport), and then headed to AAMI Park for the Melbourne Victory vs. Sydney FC match — and the citizenship ceremony. Standing on the pitch before kickoff, being introduced as a group as Australia’s newest citizens, and feeling the warmth and cheers of the crowd was surreal and deeply moving.

This wasn’t about renouncing my American citizenship (I am now a dual citizen, and will vote passionately in both countries), I’ll always be deeply American. Becoming Australian is about committing fully to my children, to the future we’re building, and to the country that’s embraced our family since we moved from NYC over five years ago. We don’t know what the future holds as far as where we live, but for today, this felt right.

This wasn’t a reaction to deeply concerning headlines coming out of the US or politics but see it as a thoughtful, hopeful step forward and I feel incredibly grateful to belong to two countries I love. ❤️ taken in Australia by @stephrudnick

Nothing better than ending an absolutely epic year of 50th birthday celebrations, awesome travel and new biz wins, of course all ACFC wins (and losses), family time, inner work, and adventures with true quality time with my family and watching C&T bonding with my incredible nephews and my epic best sister ever. TODAY! Final day of the World Sevens Football Tournament here in sunny Florida, where the teams are duking it out for their piece of the $5,000,000 prize pool. Our fans have told us over the last two days (in person and watching the broadcast) that it's the most fun soccer they've watched in years. TUNE IN!
